Just an average Cruise by askdmd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The cruise had a very nice itinerary, however it was not as relaxing having 5 ports of call in a row without any sea days. The ship was generally warm in the public areas. The entertainment in the Schooner Bar and the Duck and Dog pub were actually very poor. No one was listening to the performers. On previous cruises these areas were definitely a highlight of the cruise. I guess it was an economy cruise, but we are not used to Royal Caribbean having sub par performers. This was new to me.

This will probably be my last cruise by tlinz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The entertainment on this ship was way below my expectations, and I have cruised on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian before. The comedian was not funny at all. There really wasn't much to do for the at sea days unless you want to gamble, be in the over crowded pool area, or party with teenagers.

The food in the windjammer was ok. The dining room food was slightly better.

My room was up to standard and the stateroom staff was friendly and kept it clean. Overall this cruise was just ok. This is something that my fanily and I used to truly enjoy however this experience was not ok and we probably will not cruise again for awhile.

Last minute cruise, very favorable! by aerogal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Enjoyed this one completely, and the weather was great as well!

All of the excursions I booked through the Royal Caribbean desk, the first day of cruising.  You can go online and make sure you get the code and what you want.  The prices are the same online versus at the desk.

I recommend snorkeling in both Bonaire (3.0 hours) and Aruba (5.0 hours - 2 snorkeling sites, lunch and time on a nice beach, I even got vegetarian food which was delish!), and El Yunque rain forest on San Juan the day of departure ((5 hours - also an opportunity for food, but you do have to purchase, it is not included in the price of the trip) if your flight leaves later than expected), they also hold your luggage at the airport when you arrive, with someone watching over.  It was coordinated nicely!  I also did two spa treatments on the two days of cruising, and did the deal of the day - $79 for 6 treatments and $119 for 8 treatments.  Also for the ladies, go to the pampering class on the first day, you get a lot of freebies including an add on to a future spa treatment!   The food was awesome for a vegetarian as well, the chefs at the main dining room seating at dinner were accommodating to all allergies.   The windjammer cafe for breakfast and lunch was also equally delicious.  I had the opportunity to try the green, fresh smoothie at the solarium in the morning after my shipshape workout and walk around the deck when we were coming into port every day.  Awesome! Prepared right in front of you.

On St Maarten, I opted out of taking an excursion and paid $7 for a water taxi, and $10 for an umbrella + 2 chairs on the beach.  The water and beaches available on either side of the pier are perfect, and no need to look any further for better beaches!

In Curacao as well, there weren't as many excursions to choose from.  This was by far one of the best ports to do shopping, since the stores were more in comparison to the other islands.  If you are interested in exotic fruits to try, at the end of the floating pier on the left hand side, there is a market, very reasonably priced and they take USD as well.  Just be aware of the conversions ahead of time.

One item -- they don't let you fill up waterbottles on board.  Your best bet is to buy waterbottles from a grocery store every day on port.  The Evian water they sell onboard is ridiculously priced at $9 per 1.5 liters.

Pre-paid gratuities and their $13.50 per day works out exactly the same.  Be sure to check your onboard spending account prior to disembarking to check for any anomalies.

I did have the opportunity to buy voom internet service for one device on board.  It worked out very well for days in port and at sea.  The service is slower than what we are used to, but for important wifi calls or emails, it was very useful!  I recommend purchasing this ahead of time, as on the ship it goes for $13 and $17 per day.

Overall I would do this cruise again and more from Celebrity and Royal Caribbean!

Amazing itinerary by Hoorayforvacay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I've been on plenty of cruises, and this itinerary has islands that so far can't be matched for cultural richness and beauty. And frankly, each island felt tons safer than most other Caribbean stops we've been to.

The Adventure is an older boat and it shows in small ways, but we experienced great service for the most part. We loved this cruise and will do it again. No complaints at all.

Mixed bag by sjowright

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The Adventure Ocean club for kids was wonderful! My daughter made some really good friends. The staff was great throughout the ship and were very attentive! The ship was showing its wear and tear though. Our cabin balcony door was rusted at the bottom and the fixires in the bathroom were

very worn. There were carpet dryers in the halls and a moldy smell was present in a variety of locations. The menus in the main dining room

were less than impressive! I found the food on our Carnival cruise far superior than RCL which was surprising!

Jun 25 - Jul 2 Adventure of the Seas ABC voyage by flbulldogger60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Just a quick review of our time on the AOS. We had a good time with only one real complaint, but overall a great ship and crew aboard the AOS.  Embarkation (San Juan): This is our only real complaint for the entire trip. We arrived at the port about 1:40 PM the day of embarkation and found the staff to be overwhelmed and alot of confused people left to fend on their own to try and figure out what was going on. The staff was non-caring and appeared to be clueless about the procedures. Heard and saw plenty of shrugs and I don't care attitudes from the staff. But our fellow passengers were very polite and saved the day for those that had not been to SJ before. Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, and St Marteen: We enjoyed all the ports of call, but Bonaire was our favorite, the people were friendly and the island was gorgeous. The Ship: She was very well maintained and spotless with a great crew to boot. The Food: We ate at the MDR for all meals except the formal nights and found the food and service (VJ and Peter were the best) very good. The Windjammer had a great variety of food that was flavorful and good. Shows: We attended most shows but only stayed for the Motown Show, these guys were really good. The rest...ehhh not so much. Voom Internet: Bought at pre-cruise price, reception throughout the ship, speed was about what an old ISDN line would be, not great but at least good enough to Facebook and check email. Overall we had a great time and would recommend the cruise and ship to all.

family Cruise 2016 by mcoles46

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We arrived for check in at 1230, the check in line was short. Our check in process was smooth and quick. Once on board we had a nice lunch and at 230 we enter our stateroom very nice . Loved being on the second floor near the exit. Loved our states room person, he did an excellent job. Meals where great and the head person In charge of our table was very informative and made great recommendations. As far as entertainment we didn't think it was enough comparing it to our previous cruise on Royal Carribean.

The cruise director wants to be a stand up comedian and is making strides to get there.

The ports of call were incredible.   Seated for dinner every night with awesome waiters caring for your every need was absolutely the best.  The ship is scheduled for a refurbish and none too soon.  Our two rooms had stained coverings on the sofa and curtains.  Past time to be updated.

Second time on Adventure of the Seas by irmaorange

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This is our second cruise on Adventure of the Seas. I don't recall having any problems on the first cruise, but this time we had quite a few more. Ranging from the toilet in stateroom being out of order to elevators constantly being out of order. Issues were resolved as quickly as possible but still inconvenient. Overall the ship is great. Some areas such as cabins and other carpeted areas could use some TLC or a makeover, but does not inhibit vacation. Food was satisfactory unless you ate something with cheese sauce or Alfredo  - it all tasted like nutmeg. A lot of nutmeg. Not really suitable for nachos. The main dining room food was very good. We requested a table for two. Unfortunately, it was surrounded by six tables of 10+. We often waits a long time to get our plates removed or to get another refill. Our servers were great, the location of a two-top was bad and their workload was just too much. Sea day was overly crowded in any public area. Shows were ok, but game shows were super fun!!! This itinerary was excellent!

Awesome times, Great Crew! by ulises1000

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The ship is very pretty and the crew is friendly.  They constantly have different little venues to enjoy and participate.  The cabin was in good order, and the main dinning options were above standards.  It was great to be back onboard, this was our the 3rd time at the Adventure of the Seas!

If you choose to go to Giovanni's Table (specialty restaurant) do so in a regular day, the "Mystery Dinner" is a ripoff, more than double of the regular price and you will be seated shoulder to shoulder (literally like a can of sardines) in a 3 hours of uninterrupted horror dinner.

Once again, great crew, if you go to the Lobby Bar, Cassanova is the best waiter, at the Bluemoon at deck 14, Valcott is not only  great bartender, but also a true gentleman, both bars are led by the awesome Alessandro Salvoro.

At the champagne bar the Mixology expert Mrs. Virginia rules the spirits world!

First RCL cruise by carollindgren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This cruise is fun for families. RCL is a relaxed cruise line with a casual dress code - maybe due to the destinations. We traveled with our 2 teenagers ages 14 and 18. We did find there is not much for 18 year olds in the evening. They are no longer allowed in the teen lounge but have permission to go to the 18 and up dance club. However there are older adults there as well - over 40 yr olds - which does not appeal to an 18 year old. I think the cruise line needs to put more energy into the 18-21 year olds.

Having been on on other cruise lines I was not impressed with the food in the upper deck buffet, however the main dining room was very good. Our servers were excellent - we looked forward to seeing them each evening. There was only one up charge restaurant on our ship - $30 extra pp which I thought was high. This ship needs more choices.

But overall, we had a good time. Nice fitness center. Rock climbing wall was great fun especially for my teen son. Small mini golf course. Ice skating rink. Destinations were fun.

Adventure of the Seas cruise review by cljones60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Loved cruising the southern Caribbean.  Islands visited very pretty. Staff was friendly and efficient.  Ship was clean.  I have been on other cruises where check in at the terminal was much better.  Luggage at those piers was dropped off and the line to check in was indoors.  This was outdoors (where there was a driving rain) and you had to pull your luggage through the lines.

Otherwise, it was a wonderful cruise.  I would do this one again definitely.

AoTS St. Thomas - St. Kitts - Aruba - Curacao by winkman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Great itinerary--St. Kitts is meh, but it offers a good breather in between the other stops. The ship is about to get a huge overhaul, so should be nice for the fall/winter cruises!

Rough start... by coriwalls

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Our first hour on the cruise our toilet overflowed and every time a neighboring cabin flushed, our toilet over flowed even more. Our bathroom was flooded and the room smelled like a port-o-potty! We asked guest services to move our room, but were told the ship was at capacity. (Later met a couple who had been upgraded during the cruise). All of our towels had been used to stop the water from coming into the bedroom area of the cabin. When we returned, the water was gone, the toilet worked, the room still stunk, and we had no towels. I went up to guest services again to ask for a different room, the man behind the desk said all he could do was give us a free drink at the bar!!!! I don't even drink!!!!! We asked for more towels, he said he would have house keeping bring them down, they never came. I made three calls to our steward and two more to guest services. The steward never answered his line and guest services said they would send them. Again, never got new towels until the next afternoon when our room was routinely cleaned. I was furious and no one was willing to even bring a towel. My husband showered without having a towel to dry off with! Not at all the vacation we were looking forward to.

On the bright side, our waiter Manuel Pereira and his assistant Jayanath were amazing. They were attentive, friendly, made great suggestions, and made us feel welcomed. Even when we would see them in other dining of the ship, they made a point to walk over and talk. It is evident these two men work hard, make their guests feel like friends, and do whatever they need to do to make people happy. They should be put behind the desk at Guest Services instead of the inconsiderate people behind their now.

Excellent dining and entertainment aboard by bchaffee6084

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The service is top notch.  Our dining experience was so pleasurable with our server Antonio and Kimisha.  They were always ready for us and very attentive; this made us feel so welcomed.  Antonio even did some magic tricks for our 12 year old and she always looked forward to this.

The entertainment could not have been better - keep up the great job - we are already planning another cruise with Royal Caribbean in the future.

Royal Caribbean did their normal good job - with a few flaws. by JohnShvetz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This is my 4th RC cruise and I've stayed with RC because of what others have told me about other lines. Now, I get right thru checkin (JOIN the Crown and Anchor Society - it's free and it gets you extra benefits on your 2nd and later cruise). As usual, their dining service and food were impeccable. Granted, you may have not liked one dish, but RC ALWAYS lets you order whatever you want. So if you want both the steak and lobster for dinner, or 3 desserts, you got it. Don't ever hesitate to order two meals....the table stewards love to please (bigger tips at the end) and are happy to oblige. On lobster night, the whole table of 8 people (unknown to each other) each ordered TWO lobster tails each with no problems. We were such hogs! That said, THIS TIME we were somewhat disappointed with our cabin steward who seemed not to be attentive to our needs. Never came to make up the room when we asked, we always had to ask for towels, etc. Not normal for RC. My BIGGEST complaint about RC is that shore excursions are NOT for people who want to sleep in and relax. If you like to sleep past 7:30 AM, you will miss over 1/2 of all excursions. Sleep until 9:30 (which is the idea of relaxing and why you took the vacation), and you're left with VERY limited {maybe 1 or 2 } options. On this cruise, we took ZERO optional excursions - all we did was get off the boat, get a taxi (fixed rates to go places, so you won't get screwed) and go to the beach or into town. We did our OWN excursions. Also, why doesn't the ship stay in port longer.....the boat can do 22 knots but we cruised at 12 -13 knots most of the time. That's great - but having to be back on board at 4:30 is ridiculous. The ONLY time we could stay late until 10:30 PM was in Curacao, because the next day was Aruba which was only 70 miles away. That's my LARGEST complaint about RC. I love the ships and the service (most fo the time) but they are losing money by not having more afternoon excursions. If we wanted to snorkel, we had to be up so early, it didn't make sense. And the funny part is that when we were LEAVING the boat to go to the beach at 1 PM, most of the excursions from the morning were coming back onboard - so it's not like there wasn't time. They JUST NEED more afternoon GOOD excursions and they'd make so much more money. Oh, and if you're not a big drinker but would still like to indulge a bit, wait until day 4 and you can get a 10 drink package for $85. So instead of $10-15 a drink, you're only paying $8.50. Just don't use it on COLA...because a coke counts as a drink with this package. If you want a coke, PAY $3.00 for a coke. Use this deal to only buy a REAL alcohol drinks. Highly recommend and loved the Berry Lava-flows myself.....seven of my 10 drinks were that one type of drink. Yummy AND filling !!!    Finally, ship was big - no sea sickness at all. Slept like a baby, but remember....the bigger the ship, the more lines for everything. So think twice about egtting on that big 220,000 monster they are launching now - do you really need 19 decks? That's alot of stairs to climb when the elevators get busy. Stick with ships 135,000 tons or less. You'll be much happier. John Shvetz, Shvetz Insurance Agy,  Pennsylvania.

Great Cruise by Fitdoclm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Great cruise, had a lot of fun. In my late 20s and went with a friend to celebrate. Only spent a few hours at each island but the beaches were all great. Lots of activities on the ship and the food and drinks were amazing. Cruise had a lot of families and older couples, but there was still a decent amount of people around my age (20s-30s) and we all had fun at Jester's (the club/bar) every night.
