Patagoia and beyond. by honorico

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: South America

1. Princess is a very responsive line. We're very pleasantly surprised when we received a very unexpected upgrade three days before we left for our cruise. I had earlier asked for shipboard credits by virtue of our Captain's Circle membership but they could not give us anything at that time. However, a week later, we were advised of the upgrade. That alone is worth four stars for customer service and loyalty appreciation.

2. Our ship, the Golden Princess, is well maintained and the crew is noticeably professional, happy to please and always displayed a pleasant attitude. We would single out the following: our cabin steward, Jake Septimo, the store clerk Arnold, the Serbian lady/greeter at Bernini;s for outstanding service. They made our cruise a wonderful experience. And, before i forget, the Princess Orchestra was outstanding, one of the best bands I have seen and watched and listenend to in all the cruises we have taken, nine so far.

3. Linda, from Cruises only, is very attentive to our requests and we would like to thank her for taking care of us before we embarked on our trip.

4. The negatives: the wi-fi, for which we paid more than $100.00 was a disgrace. Princess Lines decision makers should just scrap it or spend money to greatly improve it. It was seen by all I have talked to as a "scam." and I shared the opinion albeit I don't think it's intentional. Please don't even offer it as a paid service if its performance is so below par as to make it laughable. I know you have published the advisory about satellite reception being slow but it was a total joke. You spend precious time waiting while the per minute charge. I consider money I spent on it as wasted money and I hope Princess would consider giving me a refund.

Some of the land excursions are so tightly timed that we hardly had any time to walk around places we had been taken to.

Lastly, we had air and cruise package. For some reason, our arrival in Buenos Aires where we met our ship was so late that when we arrived at the ship terminal there were no porters to collect our luggage, two of them big suitcases. There was no reason for that. Princess could have booked us on an earlier flight to ensure our arrival would be met by porters who could take charge of our luggage. We are not in the prime of our youth and we struggled to push and pull our four suitcases from the shuttle bus through the passenger terminal to another shuttle bus only to find a number of the ship crew waiting for us ship side. Why couldn't they have assigned to the terminal? Any of those measures could have made our pre-embarkation experience a good one instead we did not get through the screening until after 10:00 p.m. and had to hustle to the dining room even before we had a chance to wash up.

Otherwise, the cruise would have been a five-star.

Cape Horn Cruise by Dave789

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: South America

This cruise has a nice itinerary, the food and culinary staff were above average in their professionalism, as were the room stewards.  The excursions were good, and the whether was exceptional nice.

Too bad the extrusion desk  and customer service personnel did not feel the need to be more customer oriented.  Because of their apathetic attitudes we will look at alternative cruise lines in the future before deciding to travel with Princess Cruise lines again.

Worst cruise ever by socratescruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Silver Shadow / Destination: South America

Upon trying to speak to representatives of the cruise line about the situation, first they ignored my calls, then they said that they were never contacted by me or anyone else on the cruise.  Then, when I contacted the credit card company, someone emailed me to say that they don't make any decisions, but they see that a cruise credit was offered for a future cruise to a list of passengers, including me.  They just continue to give the run around and have not yet attempted to make this right.  This cruise was so much worse than even the cruises I took when I was in college.

The issues began right from the very beginning. We were told to get out of the Westin hotel vehicle and walk with all our large suitcases and kids for about 60 ft on rocky ground, with absolutely no staff from the cruise line to help or guide us.  The only way to get to the ship was by the shuttle that was standing there.  We loaded all of the suitcases and got in the shuttle, whose engine was off and no air conditioning in 90+ degree weather.  After we had about 20 people on the shuttle and had been baking there, I started getting a headache and asked if we could be taken to the ship.  They would not.  We remained there for another 20-30 minutes until I almost passed out. When we finally arrived at the ship, the crew just said that they were getting a lot of complaints same without any attempt to improve the situation. The next day, I remained so sick with such a severe headache, I even went to the ship medical office.  It took me two full days to feel better after that.   Obviously it must have been overheating to embark on the cruise.

After the first excursion we took, we were all starving and excited to get back on the ship to enjoy some food. We were a big group and were told that the only place on the ship we could get food at the time was in our room.  Being a large group we obviously wanted to dine together and discuss what we had seen over the day.  There weren't even any appetizers we could munch on with waiting for dinner.  It was exceptionally unpleasant to all split apart and go to our own rooms just to have a quick bite after an excursion.  This occurred for every stop/excursion.

The main destination that we were excited to see on this voyage was Costa Rica. Not only did we book an excursion through this ship, but we also booked a private tour, which we paid for, because there are so many animal activities available there that we researched prior to the cruise.   Unfortunately the weather did not allow us to stop at the port.  But instead of accommodating the passengers with something in its place or additional activities of some sort, we were just stuck on the ship for all the additional days, unable to get off.  During that time, the ship ran out of virtually all the fruit that we were eating including mango, papaya, berries, bananas, etc.  As the days went on, they continued to run out of food

In terms of food, although the staff in the main dining room were very accommodating since my husband has a very serious food allergy, the rest of the ship was not as careful. In fact, he became very ill on 3 different occasions after eating at some of the other food places.  As far as service, again you had a number of individuals who were excellent and provided excellent service, notably George and dinner staff in the main dining room and the Sommelier. But other areas were really lacking.  Virtually every morning that we ate breakfast, not in the main dining room, we received the cappuccinos that we ordered upon arrival to the restaurant after we had already completed our breakfast.  And twice we were told that they were unable to make cappuccinos, because they were testing something on the ship.

During our many days at sea, when we did not have a chance to get off the ship because we had missed our main port, we wanted to be a little bit active. The swimming pool was drained out one of the days and unable to be used.   And the ping-pong table which was the only other activity that was available was supposedly broken and could not be fixed, in spite of having maintenance staff.  So we asked if they could at least put a board up and a net so we could play some ping-pong at least.   The answer was no.  Since we were at a fairly active bunch of people,  these multiple unexpected days at sea were excruciating.

The entertainment was really amateur compared to other ships that we have traveled on.  Since our group was typically half of the people up in the disco area, by the third night of the exact same set of songs, we asked if he could play some other songs.  Our kids set up a second playlist for the "Dj."  So for the rest of the cruise, he would go back and forth between the two playlists.  On a luxury cruise like this, any one of these issues would be unlikely, but to have all of them is really bad.

All in all, this was the worst cruise we have ever taken and we have cruised multiple lines many times.  Problems can happen, but the difference is how they are handled.  If you have any problem, do not expect anything whatsoever in terms of service from Silversea.  No one from our group will ever travel Silversea again.

Ship is too old for voyage by RajRaj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Infinity / Destination: South America

We booked this tour in August 2014. This was out first time with Celebrity.

The ship is tired, the floors are uneven and a trap for High heels. Two of the customers broke their leg.

The food was so so. The land tours were exorbitant. The entertainment was good. The behind the podium series of lectures were good.

The ship books the land cruise but does not communicate with tour operators. They left us stranded in Marta for over 4 hours without a way to contact the ship. Fortunately the land cruise operator was able to contact the ship and hold it for us.

The staff was cheerful except for the land tour people (of the ship). These people were not  knowledgeable about the tours, and were just reading the brochures back to us.

MSC - WORST CRUISELINE EVER!!! by EJ9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Divina / Destination: South America

We were on a cruise with MSC DIVINA from Rio De Janeiro - Miami. This was the WORST experience ever!!!!

The buffet food was the same for 20 days, the staff in the reception was horrible!  And it felt like the ship was more suited for italian och portugese people.

BUT the worst was the disembarkation in Miami.  Due to a gasleak in the terminal we had to wait for hours. Imagine over 2000 people in the terminal. It was CHAOS! We had an excursion too. But when we finally got outside the terminal, there was some MSC staff holding a MSC sign, telling us to take the bus on the other side. We then asked about our excursion. The lady told us it had been cancelled due to the gasleak. So the bus would take us to the airport right away instead. We were told to get in touch with our Msc office back home to get our money back. So we did. We still had the original tickets of the excursion and told them all about the gasleak.  But the respond we got was horrible! They basically told us that we're lying about this. That they have contacted MSC's office in Italy and they are telling us that there was no gasleak, that we just didnt turn up to the excursion. So we're not going to get our money back for the excursion which was CANCELLED!! Ive never been so badly threated before! Now they are just saying "Sorry we cant help you anymore".

How can a  big company like MSC tell their customers that they are lying? When other people have written about the gasleak on different reviews sites on the Internet. Im speechless!  I've never in my entire life met a company as MSC before who lies and don't care about their customers as soon as they have disembarked their ships!

I will NEVER recommend MSC to ANYONE. This has been the worst experience ever!

Never again by Elin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Divina / Destination: South America

We were on a cruise with MSC for 20 days.

The food in the buffet restaurant were the same for 20 days. The first 3-4 days it was OK, but when you eat the same food for 20 days you get pretty bored of it eventually. The staff could have been more friendly. Especially the staff in the reception. I've never been so badly treated before! Ignorant and very unpleasant! When you had a question about something there were always one certain lady that dismissed you and was rude to you!

It felt like the cruise wasnt suited for english talking guest, only for italian and portuguese people. Almost everything was either in italian or in portuguese.

According to the rules of the ship no one could leave their sunbeds unattended with their clothes/towels on them for more than 30 minutes, in that case the staff would take the towels away. This never happened. So if you ever wanted to have a sunbed or sit on the chairs on deck just to relax, you could either go up really early, before everyone else or wait until the evening when everyone else was off to the gala dinners etc to even get a chance.

Some of the excursions were a disappointment, while others were pretty okay!  Our excursion was cancelled in Salvador, due to late arrival. So we booked a new one, but later found out that even this one were cancelled! So we booked a new one again, the history of Salvador, and this was both a waste of time and money! Our "english" talking guide couldnt speak english. And all we did for 4-5 hours were visiting a church and then go around for shopping the rest of the time.  Since this excursion was cheaper than the one we had booked in the first place and since the excursion in Miami also got cancelled, they said at the excursion office that we would get the money back the last day of the cruise. This suddenly changed the same day we were going to disembark the ship. They then told us that we had to contact our MSC office back home to get the money back.  And we have, several times and havent got our money back yet.

Although that we are pretty dissapointed with MSC, we are still happy we had the chance to experience all the great places in Brazil and the Caribbean.

But unfortunately we won't choose MSC ever again.  Next time we choose to go on a cruise, Royal Caribbean would probably be more suitable!

Almost a disaster by tyronzawitter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: South America

Before we booked the cruise, a delta cruise specialist asked about any medical problems. I I mm formed her then that I was pregnant. She said as long as I wasn't 26 weeks by the end of the cruise. We counted the weeks together and she said I was fine. Once I got to Colon, Panama the Royal Caribbean rep. Said 24 weeks and that was the beginning on my nightmare.

Disappointed with air conditioning in Vista Suite 192 by 4STARS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Statendam / Destination: South America

Although the itinerary, shore excursions, musicians & DANCING were outstanding, our suite's air conditioning/air flow was horrible, i.e., not functioning with temperatures being taken by ship's officers registering 80+ degrees from day 1. Although being given a fan which was a blessing, a change in suite (which was available) should have been provided. (When speaking with a couple in a Neptune suite, who had the same difficulty, they were moved within a day.)  Although front office personnel were being updated every few days, their response did nothing to actually resolve our dilemma.

Plumbing problems on deck 9 seemed almost endless with multiple fans in the corridor attempting to dry the carpet.

Ship Run Down, Service Just OK, Food Terrible by CraigSmith3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Silver Galapagos / Destination: South America

Just got back from a Galapogos cruise on Silver Galapogos.  We were very dissapointed in almost every respect.  We have been on many cruises and by and large have been very satisfied.  This ship is poorly maintained and smells of mildew.  The crew and staff barely speak english.  The rooms are small and need updating.  And lst but not least, the food was simply aweful at just about every meal.  The sales team at Silverseas grossly oversold this cruise.  Even with reasonably low expectations, Silverseas managed to dissapoint. .

Amazing Itinerary and sights by constantcruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Silver Galapagos / Destination: South America

Silver Galapagos is in need of refurbishment however since you will spend so little time aboard it's hardly an issue. There are activities to do from early morning hikes to snorkelling and sea kyacking. We had a great time and saw amazing animals and landscapes, beautiful unspoiled scenery and beaches as well. You can be off on activities as much or as little as you want. We chose to do as much as possible and fell into bed each night. The food was adequate and at times great. Air conditioning and elevators didn't seem to be working too well. Some travellers were in over their heads as they could not keep up with all the walking but we were fine. Mainly middle aged reasonably fit couples on this cruise. Happy
