Good all around crew. We enjoyed our trip very much. There was lots to do or not. Food was plentiful and good. Funny cruise director. Wonderful trip overall.

A disappointing ship and staff. by PollyB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

We had heard of Free Style Cruising but did not realize that it meant "You're on your own and we will not help you, respond to your requests, answer your questions or make you feel welcome". The ports were lovely, the boat was nice, although not a very easy floor plan to figure out. This was my 3rd cruise and I will never go on Norwegian again. The staff all thought they were on vacation as well and did not care to serve any of the guests. The cruise offered very little information on what times the restaurants were open and three different times we were unable to find any food available to eat because the times had been listed incorrectly. However, a person could always PAY for food...not quite like my past cruises for sure.

Hawaiian Islands Cruise by RonP61098609

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

Very nice and well-kept ship. The open seating had it's pros and cons. The pros are that you basically can get dinner from 5:30 to 9:00 every day. The food was good but got a little repetitious after a few days at sea. At times it was difficult to find a seat to eat. It seemed that once excursions started seating became more available. Breakfast always had a nice variety of foods and fresh fruits. Overall, you aren't quite 'pampered' as much as on other cruise ships but we didn't really go to do ship activities, we went for the Hawaiian excurions and sites on the islands so we felt it was well worth it.

A terrible cruise by ChristinaK1

It was an absolutely horrible experience. I would not recommend it for anyone. If NCL is at all interested in improving customer satisfaction, feel free to contact me. I did not meet a single person on the ship who was satisfied with the cruise!

The cruise was absolutely beautiful by ShirleyJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Hawaii / Destination: Hawaii

I just cruised around five of the Hawaiin Islands, with my husband, girlfriend and her husband. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. We had an awesone time. We cruised on the Pride of Hawaii for seven days. The ship is beautiful, very clean, lot of great food and excellent night entertainment. There were also families there with their children. The children even have their own club. I recommend that every person take a cruise in their life time.

Good cruise with a few negative points by RyanB89316434

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Hawaii / Destination: Hawaii

Overall it was a good honeymoon. We are mid 20's and this was our first cruise. We had little expectations since this was the case. Getting on and off the ship was easy and very simple. We enjoyed the freestyle eating options and learned quick to make reservations for the places we wanted to visit asap. We didnt however like the excursions that we paid top dollar for. We went on the "sunset" cruise in maui. I highly reccomment skipping this because it was the same view as from the cruise ship. The ad makes it sound like a nice sailing trip on a cattermaran with drinks and snacks. It ended up being a 1.5 hr cruise on a sub- par power boat with cheap drinks, deli - like snacks.

A Good Experience by KathyJ1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, we liked the ship; however, it was lacking something, yet I'm not sure what. The shows were okay, but not like some others I've seen. Perhaps there wasn't enough attention made to details. For example, half the coffee/hot water dispensers on the outside Aloha Cafe were out of service the entire week. Sometimes they ran out of certain foods, which I've never seen before.

An ok Cruise by AnandK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Overall the cruise was average. First the good things - the ship is new and has all modern features. The port itineary was very good leaving sufficient time on all ports. The service was pathetic. It seemed the staff did not care. While there was no rudeness or mistreatment - it was clearly different from other cruises we have experienced. There was no midinight buffet or special events. The food was ok. The entertainment was horrific. They had a magician (doing same tricks on 2 different occassions), a comedian (for 2 days) and dance show. There were hardly anything cultural about Hawaii and everything costs money including speciality restaurants. The shore excursions are mind numbingly expensive when Roberts Hawaii does it for half the price.

Disappointing by GlenG1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

My wife and I were so looking forward to this trip, but it turned out to be the worst vacation ever! The service was sooo disappointing. It felt as though we were irritating the staff anytime we asked a question. It was very difficult to get a dining reservation. Once we sat down the wait for our order took 45 minutes to 1 hour consistently. Food quality was also very poor. Staff were consistently rude - just didn't care. Wake up calls weren't on time, no one at the reservation desk several times during operating hours. Shows were embarassing... I would have much rather paid 3-4 times as much to get a class ship and staff. We were so disappointed and disgusted at how this company runs their business. I thought service was key in the cruise world??

NCL CRUISE by AmyM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

Where to begin? Our room steward was tipped in advance whether or not a good job was done, so the job she did was almost adequate. After being onshore all day one tends to look forward to a good hot meal but that was anticlimactic every time. Being hungry at least three times every day, we kept giving NCL chance after chance to redeem themselves but to no avail. We even tried the cover charge restaurants (Italian & French themed) in hopes that if we paid more and more the food would leave us with fond memories of our cruise.NOT. Our most memorable meal was on a kayaking excursion on our first day in which sandwiches were prepared to our previous order (a checklist) on homemade Hawaiian bread; they were absolutely awesome! If I had known what bad food lay ahead of us on the rest of the cruise I would of stocked up and packed our mini fridge with their sandwiches! Oh and lets not forget the meal at the food court at the queens mall on Maui. They could have put NCL out of business if it came to food ratings! I hate to say it but the mixed drinks were in the same caliber as the food. One paid through the nose for these things such as pina coladas, the stuff cruise dreams are made of, but with the quality of the mixes and the inexperienced bar staff mixing them, it was a disasterwe tried to stay with what we knew they couldnt mess up, cans of Coors lites. I really liked the excursions offered and the fact that if your excursion (booked through NCL) was late coming back, the ship would wait on you which came in handy once. Thats about it. My next HI vacation Im going to fly there, rent a camper van, use the super flyer ferry and spend my money where I will get satisfaction knowing that I will get something in value for it in return. Aloha!

A great cruise! by ShannonM6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, this was our second cruise, and clearly the only way for us to see the major islands, since we have never been to Hawaii. It was a great way to get a good sampling of the major islands. We had previously been on a Princess Cruise to the Carribean, and they had much nicer decor and more upgraded daily newsletters, and on board entertainment. Overall, a great way to see multiple islands if you want to learn which one you want to come back to later - for us it was Kauai.

A great way to see the Hawaiian islands by DylanO

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Hawaii / Destination: Hawaii

This really is one of the best ways to see a breadth of what Hawaii has to offer - setup your luggage on the first day and you're settled for a week. We were pretty underwhelmed by the food and staff performance, particularly compared to other cruise lines, but it was worth dealing with on what was overall a great vacation. The greet staff, cleaning staff and some of the wait staff definitely left quite a bit to be desired. I would recommend paying the extra $20/head for the premium dining - it was a clear step up from the standard fare. The reservation process is a bit of a nightmare, though, so don't expect to just set a time and walk right into your seat! The boat is spectacular - new, clean and with plenty of amenities. Bring a nice camera, the photo ops from the deck when sailing by the islands are out of this world.

Fun BUT Expensive by JerryL1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

First impression was good, but no restaurant should have a cover charge to eat after paying your initial cost of the cruise. I think 4-5 of them did. The freestyle way of eating is really nice, however. Soda pop is not even free on this cruise. That was amazing. Make sure you have travel arrangements at every port because nothing is close to the ports you stop at. You need to have planned in advance a rental car or transportation from the port to where you're going. And everything will cost. Overall cruise was fun, but spent way to much for the value.

as expected by BobM9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of Hawaii / Destination: Hawaii

Overall it was about what I expected, there are not a lot of activites on ship, which may be because of freestyle cruising or because the ship is in a port everyday. But we took this cruise to see every island and we did.

Great way to see Hawaii the first time by ThomasW2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of Aloha / Destination: Hawaii

We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary with NCL on The Pride of Aloha. We are experienced cruisers, 12 plus. We found this cruise to have no frills and the service was poor. We expected this from reading reviews prior to booking. We still had a great time and found it to be a great way to sample many islands for the first time.
