The Quantum! First time Cruiser! by alliefisha

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Quantum of the Seas / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

Was on my first cruise ever, and what a treat it was to go on the Quantum!  I don't have anything to compare too, so I guess that would be my downfall of this review.  But on boarding was easy!  The transfers from Newark were there right away, and then checking in to get on the boat was only a 5 minute process!  Once on board I was able to bring my bags right up to my room where there was an envelope that had my sea pass band and card right in it.  LOVED the balcony and wish I could of taken advantage of it, but will certainly book a balcony in future cruises.  The room itself was nicely decorated and seemed like it had enough room for two people.  I loved that everything was brand new!!

The first thing we all did was to look around!  It was nice to have the ship Wifi, so I was able to text people that had Iphones with out being charged.  We got a drink down at the indoor solarium.  It was nice in the cold weather to be able to be warm and have a tropical feel, and if we were daring enough to use the hot tub or pools.  We also went down to the sports complex and tried the bumper cards, it was the perfect time because there was no line.  I was just in awe how they could do all of this on a ship!  Dinner the first night was at Silk, one of the specialty restaurants.  It was good, service was Ok, and they seemed to be very busy, as we didn't see our waiter hardly ever.  Next was Mama Mia in the theater.  It was a great production!  It was nice that it was the whole thing and not an abbreviated version.

The next morning was dining at the Windjammer buffet.  It seemed very typical of a large buffet and I was able to find tons of stuff to induldge in!!  We then spent the day just looking at all of what the ship had to offer!  The NorthStar and Ifly would of been nice to try, but the waits were too long and I didn't want to waste time in line when I could of been eating or seeing the sights.  We grabbed coffee at Starbucks and just walked around!  We grabbed pizza at Sorrento's and I then lounged in the Solarium for a few hours.  It was AWESOME to grab a chair in the front of the room and just watch the water going by with a frosty drink in my hand.  That afternoon might of been the only downfall of the day, my card or my wristband was unable to unlock my room.  After 3 attempts down at customer service, the poor lady down their followed me up to my room and waited for the maintenence guy to come and fix it.  I get that technology has it's kinks, but it just took about 90 minutes to fix and missed out on a few things because of it.  Dinner that night was at the American Icon Grill.  Food was good and was excited to try everything.  But again the waitstaff was hardly around and felt like there was a long time in between courses.  We did a few clubs that night and decided to forgo our restervations at Starfall when we heard not so good reviews in our group.

My favorite part was probably the bionic bar!  Being able to be so in control of your drink and to have cool robot bartenders make your drink was awesome!!  I loved watching each and every one being made.  It might be because I'm the daughter of a robotic engineer, I can appreciate all that goes into that.  SUPER cool!!!

All in all I would really enjoy going on this ship again, in a warmer climate to be able to take advantage of all that it has to offer!

Overcrowded, bad food, never again! by Vd26977436

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

The ship was not luxurious at all. The cruise director, Josh, was just interested in taking money from the guests. The bingo game costs me $20. He called TEN numbers and someone won. That was it. There had to be 100 people in the room, and it lasted a total of 3 minutes. The dancing on the lido deck was fun, but they only had that going for the first night. That was super fun and a definite highlight. The comedian was HORRIBLE and we walked out mid-show. The food was even worse than the entertainment. I felt like we were in a cattle call. Every meal, we had to wait 45 minutes in a line. There were people coughing, little kids serving themselves and sticking their hands in the food touching everything. I was so grossed out. The eggs in the morning were powdered and tasted HORRENDOUS. WE only ate breakfast for one meal and skipped the other-it wasnt worth it. YUK. The food was ok. Nothing special. I could have eaten hamburgers, hotdogs, and pizza at home. They didnt have any decorations, the cups for the free lemonade, water, or ice tea were always gone, and the wait staff was rude. The casino was FULL OF SMOKE. IF you want to sit in the lounge to listen to music, you would come out of there smelling like smoke. These people chain smoked while they lost tons of money in the casino. They dont let you cash out money-it goes onto your room card. The people walk around and asked us if we wanted a drink literally every 4 minutes! By the time 1 hour passed, I just ignored them. I felt like this was a second class cruise. The best part was people watching-there were some drunk folks on there that were hysterical. I will NEVER go on a carnival cruise again. Save your money and pay a bit more for a cruise with better entertainment, better food, and less peddling of photos/drinks/future cruises.

Norwegian Blunder by AREALNEWYORKER

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

The experience was ok not great. We had a balcony stateroom but the glass on the balcony was filthy! We couldn't even sit on the balcony and look out because the glass was so dirty. We also made reservations to one of the "specialty " restaurants and the service was poor. We waited a whole hour after being seated to get our meals which weren't really that great!

"the first and maybe last cruise" by DonnaL9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

This being my first cruise I wasn't sure what to expect. I do know now that I would never even attempt a cruise during a Nor Eastor. That was insane, very rocky. It actually ruined the second day of the cruise. We made the best of the situation, but it seemed to be a bit much by Sunday night. We did enjoy the entertainment on the ship, that also helped to get our minds off the constant rocking. I definitely couldn't wait to get off the ship.

casino smoke by annekey

I really enjoyed everything, but the smoke in the casino made it impossible for me to do anything in or near it. I will always make sure there is no smoking on any future cruise. It was very disappointing.

Horrible experience by KateR1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Dream / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

I've already written a complaint to Norwegian as this was a horrible experience. Highlights: ran out of light beer within 2 hours of sailing, average wait time for drink: 45 minutes, dirty glasses, buffet food was absolutely horrible and always running out, impossible to get dinner since restaurants don't take reservations; dinner food was "satisfactory", boat sailed into rough seas and sat there so there was so much turbulence; ran of our of Dramamine on Friday night; staff completely misinformed/uninformed;hallway flooded day of disembarkation; called wrong floors for disembarkation leading to 1-2 hour line to get off the cruise. Horrible, disappointing. Sailed on Norwegian before and was expecting something nice. The Carnival 2-night cruise I took a few years ago blew this one away.

Not a good experience AT ALL!!!! by MichelleA9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Dream / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

Service people were untrained they did the best they could but the service was terrible because they either did not put sufficient service people on board or they didn't train them properly. When asked what you wanted to drink at the beginning of dinner and the drink was delievered after you finished eating, more than one time and looked to be most tables experienced the same.

Would not do it again by CharL

It is hard to get around the ship. We did not like the design of common areas. Passenegers were promised a football game. The ship got large numbers of people into bars spending money and kept announcing the game will be on in a minute. It never happened and people were very upset.

Royal CRAP-bbean by HeatherM6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Sovereign of the Seas / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

First & foremost - This ship smells like someone used the bathroom. When we first boarded we thought maybe someone did & it would just go away but it didn't. It stinks atleast from the 2nd-6th floors & maybe even higher than that but they try to leave the restaurant doors open to cover the smell. We even had a waiter tell us they are going to retire the ship by the end of the year because of the smell -- It's that bad!! Another thing we didn't like was they would close all the restaurants several times throughout the day -- we found it very inconvenient for them to close before & while you are at the ports of call & again at night between 5-7pm....However, they conveniently kept Johnny Rockets & Ben & Jerry's open during these times, which cost extra money. It was basically a money scam. We even met a couple on the last day that was going to contact the BBB to file a complaint because they felt it was a money scam. As for the "coke card"...I thought it was a pretty good deal at $6 a day -- They had so many people willing to serve you the first night but after that, you have to search for one of the coke carts, which becomes a hassle when you have hot food ready to eat & you have to walk around & find someone to fill up your coke. It would have been nice if the waiters would get the coke for you but they tend to all stand by each other & talk & only clean off the tables at the end...not ask you if you would like something to drink. BUT, they do exspect you to tip them -- That is all you hear about all trip. Any chance they get, they try to announce the suggested tipping proceedure & they also will turn on your tv to that channel so you will rememer to tip them. Lastly, the ports of call -- We were 2 hours late getting off the ship in Nassau. They cancelled Cococay (which was the only other port besides Nassau) due to the weather -- which everyone found odd since they had delivered an itinerary the night before stating the weather was going to be 78% with few showers -- If the weather changed that fast, they should have issued us a on board credit or a credit towards a future cruise...Or, they could have taken us to Key west or somewhere. I mean 1/2 of what we paid for was going to this island!! But, I think it was yet again another money scam to keep us on the boat spending money. Our $250 per person trip turned out to be more like $1,000 per person -- We had to pay to eat several times on this ship & to keep ourselves occupied we played bingo & stayed in the casino & drank. Did I mention they charge a 15-25% gratituity on ANYTHING you purchase. The boat was way too small for the amount of people that were on the ship. The pools were all full & the 2 hot tubs only seat about 4 people each so if you are one of the lucky 8 people out of almost 3,000 on the ship to actually get in the hot tub it was like hitting the lottery. To sum it all up, all of the "free" or included things on this ship are not open a lot of the time or are small (the pools/hot tub/fitness center). The best & nicest parts about the cruise are all larger, nice & cost extra money -- Johnny Rockets, Ben & Jerry's, the spa, etc. The only positive thing I can say about this experience was the staff was very friendly.

I led this group cruise... by tecknicole

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

I led this group cruise to nowhere.. my group consisted of 14 people. I have been on three nowhere cruises in the past so I know it's a great party atmosphere. Checking in this time, though, was chaotic. There were two NCL ships at port this time allowing guests on at the same time. It was a crazy large crowd with lots of lines but being my companion and I are GOLD with NCL, we only waited in one short line. Unfortunately, the rest of my group had to wait a while to board. After getting on board, we went to the pool deck as it was a warm January day! Party was in full swing with lots of great drinks and good food. The buffet, as usual, was jam packed so be sure you find a buffet on the pool or the back of the ship as well. There is also additional seating in the Italian restaurants for breakfast and lunch. In addition to all that, they had a pool side BBQ at 3:45pm. We stopped at our cabin (interior.. who cares to sleep) I would have liked ice or a fridge but the fridge was locked so I asked for ice and they came within 10 minutes. Luggage away- time to play! The day was full of dancing by the pool, then an excellent dinner at Tequila which is a specialty restaurant that serves Mexican food. The fajitas are amazing and the best I ever had. They also make an excellent premium margarita. After dinner, we went to Karaoke (my personal favorite activity) but you can also catch a show, gamble, etc. Then we had two venues to choose from for dancing the night away.. toga party in Bliss lounge and a phenominal DJ in Spinnaker lounge where we danced until 2am! Embarkation, breakfast buffet again, completely over crowded and then people waiting in lines to exit the ship. We relaxed and waited a bit then used our VIP gold status to go to the head of the line. Cruise with NCL for a while and you can become gold too. It was an awesome evening and I can't wait to do it again! Want to join me? www.facebook.com/livealil

Great getaway! by Mosey

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

What's not to love - plenty of activities, great places to socialize and fantastic dining options. Embarcation was pretty smooth, parking is right next to the port. The Ice Bar in January was probably not as fun as it would be in the warmer months, but it was still worth a visit.

Norweign Escape by wickjl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

The Escape was a great ship. There were alot of choices for bars and restaurants. Although some of them closed too early, like Margueritaville. I saw the Million Dollar Quartet show which was very entertaining. Also the Dueling Pianos were great fun.

I was in an inside room, which was small to me. The color decor was mostly brown throughout the whole ship and the room and I thought it use a bit more color. The way to turn the lights on in the room was you had to keep your keycard in there so one person is without a keycard if you ventured out. The best cocktail I had was at the Sugar Mojito Bar-get the raspberry guava one. I really enjoyed the waterfront seating. It was very relaxing.

Great Little Get-Away by JudyF4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Spirit / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

For a little one night get-away, my husband and I had a great time! I splurged for a balcony stateroom and I was not disappointed. Our cabin steward made himself known and available to us. The line to check in was extremely long, but being Latitude members, we got to bypass most of the wait. Once on-board, we had a great time. We found many things to do and see. I found the layout of the ship to be a bit more confusing than some of the other ships I've sailed. We never did find the disco. I thought the choices for specialty dining was good, but I'm not too crazy about the idea of an extra fee for them. We had dinner in one fo the main dining rooms, Windows, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had on a ship. It made me wish I'd spent the extra money for a specialty restaurant. The line to get into the restaurant was very long and very confusing. It didn't appear that the people were all that organized. Our first waiter (we had about 3 or 4 service people) barely spoke English, so we had trouble communicating with him. We asked for a wine steward to help us with selecting a bottle of wine to go with our meal and we didn't get one. There was a mix up in the order and my husband's order was delayed even more. My meal wasn't that good, plus it was cold. The maitre d did come over and helped make this situation right. My next meal was hot and good. With this one exception, our overall experience was good. When we were out at sea, I barely noticed we were moving. I would consider going again.

A great winter blue chaser by DeniseB10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Gem / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

The food was very substandard! The spring rolls were greasy and no taste at all the best thing I had was the pizza and that tasted like cardboard. Everything else was absolutely tasteless, the broccoli and cauliflower tasted like nothing everything was so bland. I actually lost weight on the cruise. I had a tuna sandwich in the one restaurant and it was "wheres the tuna"....very disappointed in the food....I wanted to book another cruise to Bermuda but because the food was so bad I will not go Norwegian. Also they almost put us on the wrong ship...when we went through the very long waiting...they sent us to the Jewel line and not the Gem line....then said oops and then sent us to the Gem line what they should have done was have someone walk us to the desk at the Gem line since we had already waited in two long lines....but no....we got to wait in a third long line.

Very nice but unfortunately the weather was so bad no outdoor activities were available.  That was disappointing.  At your Guest Service Department "David" was very helpful. I will say that the experience was so much better than Carnival Cruises.

We will be sailing Norwegian again.

A ship of kindness by carolresa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Cruise to Nowhere

The management of the ship is superb; employees caring; food superb; entertainment of rarely skilled level-interesting programs and presentation. The ship is a \"moveable feast\" bringing Broadway, Waldorf Astoria level offerings; Angela is a great organizer and waiter Jorge a gem. 7 plus. One is never lonely or forgotten on this ship; there is something for everyone.
