Alaska...a "MUST" trip! by UncleB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I should NOT have waited 30 years to take this trip! We have taken close to 30 cruises since mid 1980's and around 20 on Royal Caribbean. Overall we really like Royal the best and will continue to cruise this line. We have cruised to Europe and just loved it for the history but Alaska is now right up there with the best for the beauty. Like most folks, we love the Caribbean and will continue to sail there but now I know why friends and co-workers always said to cruise Alaska. Please take one of the Alaska cruise iteneries while you are young enough to really enjoy it....you'll never regret it.

huge disappointment by Cruiser72406771

we couldn't sleep in our room and nobody would help us. the noise from the crew keep us up all night until we got ear plugs. The desserts are so bad you can't eat them. They took all the taste out of the desserts. Think sugar free. We was treated so rudely by the shore excursion people that we reported them to the cruise line. We didn't even get to see the glazier because the ship couldn't get into the passage. I've been on several Royal ships they are all good except this one. it need revamping. The crew is unhappy and it shows. They are rude, unhelpful and you can tell the have forced smiles. Every cruise I have ever been on has food all the time. Not this ship. The only thing they have between meal times is pizza and pastries. There's a hotdog stand that's open maybe 2 hours if your lucky enough to get in line. This was our bucket list cruise that was ruined by Royal. Pick another ship. I tied to put my room number but this won't let me. It was 3596. If you sail this ship to Alaska don't pick this cabin even if it's the last one. You wont sleep.

Worst cruise of my life. by juliecoffell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

6/14/19 3:00 we arrived at the terminal to board the ship which was still at the dock. The ground attendant who called the ship was told were not allowed onto the ship because we were too late. She said that we could catch the ship in Juneau. So we went back to the airport, bought two tickets to Juno. Were we spent two nights waiting for the ship to dock. 6/15/19 Receive a texted from my credit card company stating that there was over $485.00 being charged to our card. This was denied. We were not even on the ship. 6/16/19 Finally got onto the ship. Went up to a room that we had not chosen. The room keys were in someone else’s name. We went to guest services to get the correct keys. Went back up to our room with the keys with our name on them. They did not work. Back down to guest services. We were told the keys would work after 4:00. After 4:00 we tried to get into our room. The keys still didn’t work. Back down to guest services. We received a bracelet to unlock the door and a card to operate the electricity in the room. This took hours and 4 to 5 people to figure out. Exhausting day. 6/17/19 Enjoyed seeing the glacier and coastline. Went to the movies. The sound was so loud it hurt our ears (other people too) and the 3d glasses were filthy. The buffet was mediocre and not big enough to handle all the people on the ship. 6/18/19 Enjoyed the show. Went to my time dining for dinner which was good. 6/19/19 Docked in Victoria. Before we went on a tour we paid our bill. The room steward said good bye because we were leaving the ship. We told him no we are just going on a tour. Went we got back from the tour we went to get back on board but were blocked. We asked why and were told because we boarded the ship in Juneau we could not go back to Seattle due to a Jones Act. If we did it would cost us a fine of over $800.00 each. So we packed up our belonging and went to the ferry station to catch the ferry to St Angels. Then took a cab to the ferry to get to Seattle. Took another taxi to the airport and had to pay extra to change our flight to Florida. 6/20/19 Finally got back home. The mental stress of chasing the boat and humiliation being stopped and not allowed back on the boat was terrible. The ship was more of a cattle boat than a cruise ship. Very disappointing.

Beautiful Ship, Friendly Crew by Johns23423

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We enjoyed the ship, crew and ports. Three sea days was a bit much especially two on the way back. Alaska is beautiful and the excursions are well done. We did some hikes which were great ways to enjoy the natural beauty.

Good, not great. by christinelisa2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise on Celebrity. It was our 10th cruise and we thought we'd try it. We had a good time but not a great time. With so many other choices we won't sail with Celebrity again. The ship had its plusses for us, one being the food. We thought the quality was better than other major lines. The ship was a little tired looking, but clean. Stateroom was good size and comfortable. We particularly liked the bathroom layout. Staff generally was not friendly, they seemed either tired or not happy. Of course there were a few exceptions and those staff members stood out. Our room steward was great. While there were many onboard activities, most didnt appeal to us. The lecturers were very good. There were no exercise classes which I enjoy. I didn't want to pay 17.50 plus 18% added gratuity for a class! This brings me to my next point which was a major negative. From start to finish we were inundatedated by pushy staff members wanting to sell us something. It was obnoxious. We felt like second class citizens with just a regular class stateroom and no drink package. And everything on the ship is outrageously expensive. A cup of regular coffee is 6.00 (when not in dining venues.) All on all, I was told Celebrity was a cut above, but I found the opposite. We are going back to Princess or Royal Caribbean

I would take the same cruise on the same ship again! HAL did not disappoint! Don't go on a larger ship because you won't be able to get into Glacier Bay! Can't wait to go on our next HAL cruise! Bermuda again? Canada/New England?

Alaska, the last frontier! by angelo721

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Bliss / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Bliss is a great ship but it has its issues. You need to plan, book things early. Do not count on the Cruise Staff for entertainment, you need to entertain yourselves, unless you like trivia 3 times a day for 7 days. Go to the Specialty dining it is worth it. Buffet food is real good, main dining room food is good, but they need to expand the menu a bit. More themed nights. I would the cruise again.

It was a nice relaxing trip for us. Due to age and some physical limitations, we did not do a lot of the wonderful excursions. Just enjoyed viewing the sites.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT by tpass77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Eclipse / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This cruise was beyond disappointing and Celebrity should be ashamed. I couldn't recommend this cruise to ANYONE unless maybe you are part of a large group, in which case Celebrity will do any and everything to please you to the detriment of everyone else. All you hear about now from Celebrity is its new ship, the Edge. It seems they have forgotten that it is great service that keeps cruisers coming back, not the bells and whistles on a new ship. I won't ever cruise with Celebrity again.

Exceeded my expectations! Wonderful Experience! by TylerStevens

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I was blown away! The cruise exceeded my expectations! We would definitely do the same trip again. Norwegian is a great company. Just wish they would have worked to get our rooms closer together. We booked the cheapest inside room and ate only at the included dining spots and can't imagine why anyone would need to upgrade. Love the whole experience.

Wonderful Alaska Cruise on The Norwegian Joy by chungp

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My wife and I really enjoyed the Alaska cruise on the Norwegian Joy. The ship was very beautiful and the services throughout the ship were exemplary. Although we loved the food and services at the specialty restaurants (Cagney's, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki), we also enjoyed dining at the buffet and the complimentary sit-down restaurants. The exotic Indian curries at the Garden Cafe buffet were mouth-watering. Kudos to chef Logan and Praveen - your lamb shank curry and chicken tikka masala were outstanding. We should have asked you for the recipes! For outstanding services, special compliments also go to Elsie and Joan from Le Bistro, Yundus and Makora from Cagney's and Adrian from Teppanyaki. What can I say about the entertainment crew? Each and every one of them was outstanding! Unfortunately, I do not recall all the names, but Krystle, Arvin and Yanique come to mind. Thank you Krystle for teaching us to sing "This Is Me" and preparing us to perform in front of an audience! Last but not the least, the stage shows - Elements, Footloose and the magic of Pj Wen - are not to be missed. They were just outstanding!! All in all, a highly memorable cruise.
