My wife and I planned on just browsing through the shops at the port but were offered an hour long city tour with rum tasting stop for $45 total (price was completely negotiable) and we decided to go for it. The van was a bit warm but the tour was informative and the driver and guide took us through a lot of the city. It was interesting to get an "unsanitized" look at the port city. It's always informative to see how people live in other places.

What a excellent tour! Carlos and Gilbert were great guides and hosts. The tour of the ruins was very informative and tons of fun. Warning-come prepared with jokes. The lunch was very tasty and also a great way to learn more of the local culture. Would highly recommend this tour for those cruisers that are looking for a fun excursion without ton of activity required.

Booked a zip line/cave tubing excursion. The ride was about an hour each way. The zip lining was first. There are many steps to get to the platforms and we were winded on a couple of them. After the zip line, the walk to the entry point on the river was about 40 minutes. It was a peaceful float down river, through the cave. We then had about a 10 minute walk back to the shuttle van. This was the best excursion we did.

Very poor country, however it is very beautiful. I did not feel unsafe while traveling outside of the port and the people were very friendly and appreciative.
