A: No, visit the ruins if you have never seen them. We took an excursion arranged by the cruise line to the Lamanai Mayan ruins. It was very interesting and fun. First we took a boat ride through the jungle to observe local flora and fauna. This dropped... us off at the ruins where we were free to roam and climb as we desired. Afterwards the boat returned us to our bus pickup point where we enjoyed a buffet of local cuisine and drinks. An excellent excursion!!!See More

A: There are around 100+ shops and restaurants in the port compound. It is not advisable to go out of the compound unless on an excursion for safety reasons.

Answered by taacman on March 6, 2023

A: With the length of the tender loading and transit to the dock, don't bother leaving the ship unless you have already arranged a organized tour (through the ship or w/ a 3rd party that meets at/very near the dock) or planning on shopping. Not many "at... the dock" tours offered, and the vehicle mounted and manned 50mm guns by the port gate do not instill a sense of safety outside the terminal walls.See More

A: Things have not changed much for the areas outside of the secured walls of the port. Most still recommend only using trusted guides to go out and about or travel in groups to resort for a day reservations. As for the shopping area within the port tha... t is only passengers and authorized workers, so it is safe.See More
