No, visit the ruins if you have never seen them. We took an excursion arranged by the cruise line to the Lamanai Mayan ruins. It was very interesting and fun. First we took a boat ride through the jungle to observe local flora and fauna. This dropped us off at the ruins where we were free to roam and climb as we desired. Afterwards the boat returned us to our bus pickup point where we enjoyed a buffet of local cuisine and drinks. An excellent excursion!!!

We took a boat to Goffs Caye. If you are a beach person and want clear blue water and white soft sand go here. Relaxing and beautiful. No water sports. It’s a private little island. They have a good stand and bathrooms.

Harpergrass. you will need your ship's card and photo ID everytime you get off the ship at every port. You cannot leave or return without them. Those are all you will need.

I never recommend staying on the ship at a port you've not visited before. My first (and only) trip to Belize via cruise ship I chose not to book an excursion beforehand, and instead ended up booking something from a tour company in port. I had a great time!

we did the cave tubing with zip lining and atv in Jungle with an amazing lunch. long ride to and from, but so worth it.

If you don't secure an organized tour for here before arriving and aren't interested in the average port chain retail shops, then yes stay on thr ship. It's a long tender time to the dock and and there are not many tour operators allowed within the security walls to get last minute sales. But it is worth exploring as long as you have a guided tour.

Staying on the ship takes away from YOUR EXPERIENCE. Everyone has an opinion and it is your lose if you don’t get off the ship yourself and at least know for yourself if you like it. We did a bus tour was amazing! Port is great for shopping for gifts

Only you can answer that question. If you’re asking because someone has told you that it’s unsafe- our experiences in Belize have been wonderful. I looked for a reputable company online and booked a private excursion for zip lining and cave tubing at Jaguar Paw resort that included lunch. To date it’s the best excursion we’ve done in the Caribbean and one of the best overall. It’s not typically recommended to walk around Belize city on your own. They recommend if you don’t have an excursion booked to stay within the port area. We did that once. It was fine, we made some custom chocolate bars and found a nice bar to kill time. But since it’s a tender port, the hassle of going to just look around the port area wouldn’t be worth it to me in the future.

Belize is beautiful. Butts up cave tubing, Little French Key, the zoo, Wet Lizard bar at Port (best conch ever)....

Please do not stay on the ship and miss Belize. As the others have said, the ruins are great, cave tubing is a blast, and Beliza has a beautiful reef for snorkeling or diving and the water is usually very clear. Why on earth would you stay on the ship! My kids and granddaughters were just there for a week. It is as safe as anywhere.

I have a question? We have an excursion booked with butts up. What documents will we need to get back in port. We do not have passports.

Answered by Harpergrass on March 11, 2023

Cave tubing was amazing! We used Butts Up and they were great!

carolann1977-what is the cost for this?

Answered by ayork2013 on March 10, 2023

i will always get off my first time at a port, if I get off on future crusies is a different story. Belize was not for us. It was a rainy day and we just stayed in the port area. unless there is an excursion booked personally I'll stay on the ship if we ever go back. but I recommend getting off and seeing for yourself
