We did NOT do any excursions but did get out and walk around the port area. It hasn't changed much over the years. Everyone at the shops were friendly and willing to help you. It is a little small but in a comfortable way concerning getting around shopping.

This was our cultural highlight. From the port we took a free shuttle. Then we just walked a couple of blocks from the drop off and drank in the city. Found an authentic family owned Taqueria for authentic Carnitas Tacos and Chiccharonnes Tacos for 1$ each. It was a jarring experience to see the armed police carrying machine guns at the ready.

We went to a beach "resort" as an excursion. Although it ended up being nice and there were lots of activities to do, it was not what was pictured in the description. We took a very nice bus to get there, but had to drive through some questionable areas on the way. The "resort" we were supposed to go to was just a beach house. Food was good and the staff was entertaining though. Just not sure if it was worth $80.

We took a bus to Mérida to explore for the day. We don't recommend it! The city was great but there just simply wasn't enough time. Also, traffic was bad coming back. It took us an hour. We would've been better off taking an excursion to some ruins or hanging at a resort/beach. Learn from our mistake!

Transportation after getting off the boat was awful. I can speak spanish, so the language barrier wasn't even the issue. The bus driver for the free shuttle promised me over and over again that we were heading to the location I needed to go. He dropped us off at a different location and immediately his company tried to sell us tours under the assumption that we would be late for our scheduled tour. We ended up making it on our tour, but our time spent at the ruins was reduced. I guess this could have been avoided if I had booked an excursion through Carnival, but I prefer to be more adventurous. It's easy to get around when people are honest.

Enjoyed the day. Mayapan Ruins, Cenote and Hacienda Lunch. It was great. EAT before you go, take a granola bar because lunch is late and take water to drink while at the Ruins. Need water shoes for Cenote. Again, shops have all the same goods.

The port of Progreso is nothing to look at. It is a shipping port, so there's not a lot of attractive qualities about it like there is in Cozumel. We went on the Photo & Foodie sightseeing tour excursion. Priscilla and George were great tour guides. Very good info, entertaining, and George walked us through the bakery and explained what each thing was to us. The food was great, and we loved all of the beautiful things we saw. I would highly recommend this tour. We felt safe and comfortable the entire time.

We did a tour to Uxmal Maya ruin. It's awesome for people never been to Yucatan. It was 1.5 hours drive from the port and it's bigger than chichen itaz. I booked it through Shore Excursion, not Carnival. It's a very small group, only 9 people. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. I think it's better than chichen itaz. Since Chichen itaz is closer to Cancun and Uxmal is closer to Progreso.

We went on the mapayan ruins and lazy river excursion which was pretty cool and very informative thanks to Jose and Irwin and also our amazing bus driver Tomas. The only thing i didn’t like was the fact that it took an hour and 45 minutes to get there. The excursion itself felt kind of rushed because of all the time it took to get there and back.

No excursion. Took the free bus to town, but did a short bur tour of Progresso. We liked being able to see more of what Progresso actually is, but did not really like the area, ( due to no trash pick up/sewer issues). We then walked down the main street to the beach, and again, trash everywhere, and once you get closer to the beach, you are approached continually for purchases, massages, donations, ect. Not very relaxing having to say no every 15 seconds.
