Review summary

It's nice. We gained some experience and could prepare better next time.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We parked at the port parking lot. It's free if you're disable veteran or handicap. It's easy to drop the big luggage with the port. One of the person in my group is not US citizen, so she need to get verify separately. But the process is very smooth.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Overall it's awesome. Next time we will bring bottle water and soda with us. Please refer to review for each individual restaurants.

Onboard Activities

We used the whirlpool hot tub many times. It's nice and relaxing to watch dive-in movies. I used fitness center. It even has shower and changing room right there.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I love the big show in the Ivanhoe theater. The performers worked so hard and their singing were pretty well. I also love the comedian shows very much. It's my first time to see stand-up comedy on the stage. I caught every show they had. It's always a full house.

Children's Programs

My 5-year-old loved the ocean camp. She made friends there very quickly. Of course she preferred to swim and watch cartoon with us. The ocean camp is big help for us. She loved the Dr Seuss Parade, story time and Christmas party. There're lots of fun for kids on the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent staffs. They worked so hard and deserved the tips we paid. They are from all over the world and got pay nothing according to US standard. Everyone we met was pretty helpful although sometimes we couldn't understand their English very well. For example, when we asked where is the kid's camp. The staff on the 9th floor told us it's on 10th floor; the 10th floor staff told us it's on 11th floor; the 11th floor staff told us it's on 12th floor. When we got to 12th floor, it's not open until 10 am. But overall, they are awesome!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It's an older ship. The most frustrating place is the elevators. It took a long time to arrive and sometimes it would not stop at the floor we pressed or the lighten buttons went dark on its own. For example, we pressed 9th floor and it would go up to 8th floor and decided to go down. One day it smelled so awful because some one probably vomited or shitted in the elevator. And the elevators were closed for maintenance too many times. It's not convenience for people that needed they.

Cabin / Stateroom

We have two cabins. One was on 2nd floor and the other was on 8th floor. In my opinion, the interior room on the 2nd floor is way better than the balcony room on the 8th floor. The 2nd fl room has hot water, It went hot so quick that we have to turn it to the cool side most of the time. We don't feel any shaky when the weather was nice. There was no noise from the ship in the 2nd fl room at all. Since most entertainment lasted till late night. We slept late and the interior room was perfect to let us wake up late in the morning. On the other side, the water did not heat up quick in the 8th fl room. My family had to take a cool shower one time. You can feel the ship movement on the 8th fl. On a clear day, the shake is okay because it can put you to sleep. But it was storming on our last day at the sea, the ship was shaking so bad that made us sick. In addition, we cannot sleep well because of the sunrise.

Ship tip

Bring your own shower gel, shampoo and lotion. Bring walkie talkie so it is much easier to reach people in your group.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

It's great so we can take cruise from home. We are from Houston.

Cozumel, Mexico

There are some much things to do here. We did a snorkeling tour. It was awesome. We saw shark, turtle, star fishes, Blue Tang (Doris) and many many fishes. But it would be nice to just hang out on the beach, have a nice seafood lunch, do a city tour or do some shopping.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

5 out of 5
We did a tour to Uxmal Maya ruin. It's awesome for people never been to Yucatan. It was 1.5 hours drive from the port and it's bigger than chichen itaz. I booked it through Shore Excursion, not Carnival. It's a very small group, only 9 people. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. I think it's better than chichen itaz. Since Chichen itaz is closer to Cancun and Uxmal is closer to Progreso.

Disembarkation

Just need some patience. I like it personally since I was not rush to get off the ship. But the crew members did need to clear the rooms and get ready for the next trip. So many people chose not to wait in their room. It's much more comfortable to stay in our room than other public area.
