Very industrial port. 30 minute drive to anything. We did have a good time at the ruins even though the weather was less than desirable. Would not mind if our next cruise didn't envolve a stop here.

This port, too, had many shops to keep you busy. We did the Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins and Cenotes of Cuzama. So amazing! Carlos was a great tour guide and his driver, Speedy Gonzales was great as well.

We only walked around Progreso, did not go into Merida. The beaches were not free and you were badgered at every step to buy something. I think if we had gone into the ruins or done something more, we would have a better opinion though. I had read and knew this was most likely what would happen so I was not surprised.

Just nothing there really. Carnival had a few building thrown in (nice and new) for the typical tourist trap sales of goods. However, the port is a commercial port that is miles away from town. It is not pretty and the water was not clear. It was like pulling into a truck stop. Highly recommend an excursion. We took an excursion, so the port was not an issue for us as we were out and about.
