I actually loved this port. I will warn you though, no one tells you you have to take a shuttle from the ship to the port entrance. They said you arrive in a shipping dock, but they aren't clear that once you get off, you have to wait in a really unorganized line to get on a shuttle that literally takes you 2 minutes up the road (through cargo) and drops you off. It could have been easily walked, but not allowed. Then, once there, you have to take a taxi. Don't walk. The stuff you want to see is just too far from there. Don't even attempt to visit the Golden Zone without one - and don't do what I did and walk the boardwalk in the summer. I wanted to die. But it's really pretty there!

Great shopping. I didn't think we would feel safe here but we did and the people were very friendly.

We did not do an excursion here, just wandered around town and the Malecón. Mazatlan is a sleepy little town, and we had a great day on our self guided tour.

It’s not pretty nor clean, nor safe. We hired a “taxi tour” at the port and he assured us we would be safe as long as we stayed with him. For like $20 per person he took us in his van around town all day to show us sights and tell us about the city. We asked him to take us to HIS favorite place to eat and it was amazing and VERY cheap, he said it was in the neighborhood where his home was located, this was definitely not “touristy” and we liked that part.

If you can, take an excursion away from the port area. Our excursion took us into the mountains into what the locals say “the real Mexico”. We went to a stable where they train dancing horses, a small family owned tequila factory, area where they honor “day of the dead” and finally a little town for an excellent Mexican meal.

We did the stone island beach getaway and rode horses briefly. Loved it. The lunch was DELICIOUS. Drink selection was really good. Sand was soft and amazing. The tour guides were very friendly and willing to share facts and answer questions in a friendly manner. They were very helpful. The short horse ride was fun and the guide was good. I also took close toed sandals for this excursion to change into for the horse part. Be prepared for the vendors to ask you multiple times to buy something at this port. They were most persistent here out if the 3. Do not leave belongings at a table but take with you. Local kids also hang out at this beach spot. We walked up and saw a couple leaning over our things.

We did not do an excursion. We jumped in a taxi and he took us to multiple destinations for photo opportunities before dropping us on in the Golden Zone. We explored, shopped and ate some of the best tacos of our lives at a sports bar/restaurant (can't remember the name) before heading back to the boat.

Didn’t leave port area. This is where I shopped for souviners. They had indoor Air conditioned areas and outdoor as well. Vendors in each store were pretty nice and not pushy.

I did the lighthouse hike. It was A LOT easier than I thought it would be. I enjoyed the hike up, the views at the top are great, and our tour leader Cristobol was wonderful. He made sure everyone got to the top, give us lots of good information, and is a very nice friendly person.
