Embarkation

1st pc of advice- print your luggage tags and connect your atm to sign and sail card at home. You will avoid 2 long lines. We had a family member drop us off curbside at long beach terminal around 1p. It was crowded and chaotic with lines going who knows where. We had kids and tons of luggage, so my husband flagged down an employee with a large cart, tipped him and he took our luggage. Terminal/dome itself is nice and they have employees guiding you where to go (just not near curbside).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Only had their merlot, which was tasty. Their food was pretty good. Expect the same breakfast everyday. Hubby and kids loved the carving station and pizza. Ppl complain of thin soggy pizza, but from what I’ve learned, that’s pretty close to authentic Naples pizza. OJ and Apple juice are only for the mornings. They change it to Lemonade and Ice tea during lunch and for the rest of the day. Dining room was great and new menu everyday. I love their coffee brought my own creamer from home.

Onboard Activities

Pools were nice and clean. Appreciated the employees who addressed people who were rough housing in the pool or bringing diapered babies in the pool. (I have a diaper baby myself so nothing personal). My son loved Camp Ocean. Staff was friendly and the camp was clean and safe.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Leon the director was amazing. He entertained thousands but was still personable. The musicians at the atrium lounge/splendor bar were so talented and engaged with the crowd.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Camp ocean is nice and clean. They also do arts n crafts activities and the counselors engage with the kids. Very energetic positive and safe environment for kids. My son would even ask to go back. If you have a baby under 2, go there from 8a-10a for free play and let them crawl/run around (but you’ll have to stay with them).

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Korakkorn, our room steward was always around. We woke, she was working. Before we fell asleep she was working. Every day after breakfast, our room was clean. Every night after dinner our room was turned down. Waiters are the same who serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Same energy and smile from sun up to sun down. They’re amazing! Hardest working people I’ve seen. Please don’t forget to tip them and be nice to them too. They have loved ones at home they don’t see for 7 months or more at a time.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Splendor is a bit aged with rust, worn out carpet and tiles falling off the pool area. But staff do what they can to keep it clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

Loved our Grand Suite. Can’t always afford it, but we went off season and that helped. Enough room for the 4 of us. Loved the large balcony and living room area. Has a separate vanity with sink. Huge tub for bubble baths.

Ship tip

Embarkation was the toughest. Try to get in early and relax rather than getting there during the cattle call. Expect and aged ship. It’s not new and glamorous like the ones we see on tv. And make the most of your trip. After the crazy embarkation process, I thought I was done with cruises. But to see my son so happy to just be on the ocean really changed my attitude. Gotta see our world through the eyes of a child. So much more happy!

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

Shopping and restaurants around Long Beach are nice. Be aware though, a few blocks the wrong way neighborhoods can get sketchy.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Restaurant near port was good. Then it started to rain and we went back on the ship Looked fun though. Lots of fun drunk cruisers tendering in later in the afternoon.

Mazatlan, Mexico

Didn’t leave port area. This is where I shopped for souviners. They had indoor Air conditioned areas and outdoor as well. Vendors in each store were pretty nice and not pushy.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Loved this port the most. We took a taxi to Los Muertos beach. Shopped for a few souviners at their flea market (much more pricey than Mazatlán). They were really pushy here and I understand they have to provide for their home. My family is from a third world country. However it became too much. To the point where I was dealing with a screaming baby and whiney child, but vendors still surrounded us trying to sell as we eat lunch in the beach. Next time I plan to shop somewhere else and do a private resort and relax at PV.
