I took the shore excursion to Maeshowe and the standing stones. Maeshowe has the largest collection of Nordic tunes outside of Scandinavia. It was a very claustrophobic entrance to get into the structure, but I’m glad I did it. There was too many to really get a good look at it as the location is small. The standing stones were under restoration as they were trying to build up the marsh to protect them. We were still able to visit them. After returning to the ship I took the free shuttle into town. There was a beautiful display at St.Georges Cathedral. There was also a spot across the way with free WiFi and an indoor craft show the day I was there. I wandered up and down the streets using a map from the patter. It seemed like quintessential European streets that us Americans think of when we think of Europe. I found great deals on T-shirt and found a local market that sold whisky chocolate and fresh marmalades. I loved this little island. On a side not my friends went to the italian chapel and said it was magnificent.

Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae & Skaill House. Extremely interesting tour and a great experience despite the cold rainy weather.

We enjoyed Inverary Castle and all its history. The current Duke of Argyll and his family still live there.

We did the excursion to the Italian Chapel in Scapa Flow and also toured the Highland Park distillery. Enjoyed them both. The Italian Chapel (made by Italian prisoners of war in WWII) is something to see.

I met up with an old school friend who took me all over to see the standing stones and Churchill barriers and the Italian chapel. Then later I went on a walking tour and saw the cathedral and the castles. They are well worth a visit.
