Queen Victoria

12 Night British Isles (Southampton Roundtrip)

Sail date: June 04, 2019

Ship: Queen Victoria

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

Very much enjoyed the cruise. Be forewarned....on this cruise the average age appeared to be 70+. My wife and I are in our early 50's and (I believe!) were some of the youngest on board. If you are looking to "party" all night, probably not your ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
As always, spot on with embarkation. Short lines, no issues.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We were in the Princess Grill, but on occasion went to the buffets. Food and service was great.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We utilized the spa on a daily basis. Buy the package at the beginning of the cruise if you like using the sauna, whirlpool, etc.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
By and large the stage shows were good. Had one comedy routine that we just did not get and we normally like British humor.

Children's Programs

Did not bring kids on this one.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service on board is second to none. Polite, accommodating....there when you need them, not in the way when you don''t need them.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Common areas were cleaned on an on-going basis....never saw any unclean portions of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
In the Princess Suite. Size is roughly the same as a standard stateroom, but it has a bathtub which my wife wanted. Clean and more than enough room for the two of us.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

3 out of 5
Working port....not a lot to do in town.

Greenock (Glasgow), Scotland

4 out of 5
You dock in Greenock.....A city that has, perhaps, seen better days. Having said that, the people were quite friendly and we enjoyed walking the city. You have to take the bus to Glasgow....We did not.

Oban, Scotland

5 out of 5
Crystal clear waters as you come in tender. The seafood was out of this world fresh!

Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland

5 out of 5
We did the excursion to the Italian Chapel in Scapa Flow and also toured the Highland Park distillery. Enjoyed them both. The Italian Chapel (made by Italian prisoners of war in WWII) is something to see.

Dublin, Ireland

5 out of 5
We did walking tours of the city. Hiked over to the Guiness brewery (took a taxi back!) Friendly people.

Liverpool, England

4 out of 5
Raining while we were there. Toured some museums near the dock. Food in town was ok.

Cobh (Cork), Ireland

5 out of 5
Quiet port city. We explored on out own and enjoyed it.

St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands Did not visit port

Weather precluded taking tenders ashore.

Disembarkation
