Review summary

The cruise itself was great, the weather was fabulous and all of the ports are lovely, I withhold that comment from Greenock which isn't so fab. The cruise director helped with my view of the ship, but the ship itself isn't so great, crowded at the best of times and hectic at it's worst. The layout doesn't help. This ship retains some features that have been removed on other similar ships. I felt it was in need of an overhaul, which to my knowledge still hasn't happened (late 2017).

Embarkation

It was fine, some delays boarding and having to hang around.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Most of our issues related to getting to the dining room. Only two lifts went down to that floor and on two days of the cruise one of those was out of order. We had to wait for a lift going to that floor because my parents can't walk far, this added ten minutes to getting to dinner on those two days and added quite a bit of time even when two lifts were running. Food was OK, drinks around the price you'd expect, though charged in Dollars so are now considerably dearer as the Pound has lost so much value since we travelled.

Entertainment

Probably the best side of the ship was the entertainment.

Ship Quality

Don't like the layout of the ship, hard to even get to the dining room we were allocated. No flow, several dead ends, generally not good unless you don't mind walking up and down stairs.

The port area and what's around aren't that great. It's a long walk to the station, if you want to head to Glasgow. So you end up being tempted into tours. There are better ports on a cruise around the UK.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland

fabulous location, rather overwhelmed by tourists when the cruise ship arrives but still lovely.

Invergordon (Inverness & Loch Ness), Scotland

5 out of 5
Hired a car and drove to Loch Ness - wonderful. Inverness is also nice.

South Queensferry (Edinburgh), Scotland

One of my favorites, OK you have to tender but a great location. There can be long queues for the transfer into Edinburgh, get together with some other people and share a taxi, or if you're keen on walking, the railway station is about twenty minute fast walk away - 45 minutes if you're slow! You can catch a train across the Forth Rail Bridge - and back into Edinburgh. Decent service.

Le Havre (Paris), France

Hired a car and drove to Honfleur, that's a great little place.
