Do not go outside the secured shopping area! High taxes, wait to buy some things in Cozumel if you're heading there next-- 16.5 % tax rate at Del Sol - OUCH!! Some vendors were pushy.

DO NOT USE TAXIS OUTSIDE OF THE PORT ONCE DRIVER GOT US IN HIS CAR AND AWAY FROM THE PORT HE CHANGED THE PRICES, REFUSED TO BRING US BACK AND DID NOT TAKE US TO WHERE HE PROMISED. Pay the extra money and do shore excursions with the cruise.

We went out into the city. I felt very overwhelmed by the people and seemed very dingy. Sorry we didn't just book the waterfall climb there like we had talked about initially.

Outside of the port, the town is very poor. You must immediately go on tours that take you out. I'd be more satisfied if there was a nice beach that I could enjoy as a passenger of the cruise that was ran by Royal Caribbean personnel.

OK, the area just off the dock is like the Disneyland version of Jamaica but still a nice experience. Got some good Jerk chicken at a local spot.
