Pick pockets

We try to be vigilant no matter where we are, but I leave my best jewelry home when cruising. I do have some pieces that are specific to cruising or I bought while cruising (that I usually bring back to their home) that do not stay home. Now if the "pick pocket" could get my rings off after a hot day, I might borrow their services.
Wow that's crazy that they took off her rings! I've never been to Fiji but I was really careful when we went to Europe because I've heard stories. I got one of those crossbody purses from Travelon that's slash-proof, has locking zippers, and an RFID pocket. I totally recommend it, I don't know if it helped me on this trip but it did give me peace of mind. Also with the ring thing in mind, I guess I would leave meaningful rings back in my cabin or block them with cheap rings on the same finger!
We have visited here on a cruise last year & didn't have a problem. I probably will leave my engagement ring home just in case on my next cruise. I carry little cash & keep my CC close to me in foreign ports. Thanks for the reminder to be very careful no matter where you are & try not to get distracted when taking photos or shopping.
LOL - I misread your post OldGreyWolf.
No, not me, but I was watching a travel expert on our news this week doing her segment and it was about this very thing - pick pockets and personal theft. She mentioned about the shoulder bag with the mesh built in and I think I'm going to order one.
Still find it hard to believe the lady on my cruise had her rings taken while walking around Suva and she said she did not fell them being taken.
Pick pockets are slick
Thanks. Sadly, I had a pretty good news story in my head this morning. I feel like a neutered dog.
DANG IT!!
BAK and ctav, it's likely still because of some tech glitches. BAK, I think you've been behaving really well lately .
As for the question the OP asked about pick pockets, that can happen anywhere at all, even at home. People need to be aware and take precautions - leave valuables in the safe, don't wear much jewellery, keep wallets in front pockets instead of back, and wear cross body purses instead of carrying one in their hand which would be easy to snatch. Toy can purchase a wire mess lined bag with wire in the shoulder strap that can't be cut off by a crook trying to grab and run.
