NCL THINKS EVERYBODY IS STUPID....

I find this sad but really not surprising from NCL. We reached the highest loyalty level in NCL many years ago. My understanding is the levels have now changed. We stopped sailing NCL when their customer service went into absolutely what. I call No customer service mode.
We had a couple of issues that could easily been rectified. But they were not, to be fair I’m speaking about the land based staff. The ships crews were always great when I sailed.
it appears as thought they are starting to throw things against the wall to see what sticks. I just watched a video where they missed a port and made the guests wait in line to get their refund for port tax. If they didn’t request it it was not returned.
For me to sail NCL again it would have to be a sweet deal!
When Covid shut things down, our favorite T/A was laid off. She has come back to work recently and has, as is her custom to search and advise our whole family about travel arrangements.
Recently we have seen close to a 100% increase in the pricing for travel and cruises over the rates from 2 years ago. Since our income has not increased to the same proportion, we have to be a little cautious.
Do you have any idea how much it costs to cruise and fly 4 parents, 4 grandkids, 2 aunts and 2 friends and 3 grand parents. from Alberta to Florida for a 7 day cruise??????
OUCH!!!!
Added cost during the cruise will not be an option anymore.....
It's occurring across several lines. We've all known cruising is a high value vacation and cruise line leadership believes they can match sea rates to what land based resorts can command. Only time will tell if the strategy retains guest loyalty. If it gets too pricey sailing the mainstream lines, some might just save and move to sailing a higher end inclusive line (less frequently) than the legacy lines.
NCL is also now charging $20 a day gratuities and for that you now receive only one room cleaning per day. Great! Less service but extra $$. My wife and I have a $1500 credit with NCL but are having a hard time finding a decently priced cruise. My advice moving forward? Don't be loyal to one line. Do your homework and shop around.
Which is EXACTLY why I suggested you could have posted that tidbit HERE. It certainly caught a lot of people by surprise. I'd bet real money most folks don't wander around reading peoples profiles, I've got a whole bunch of cruises I never reviewed, but if I had some thing I thought was interesting, let alone newsworthy, I'd put it here..
From the looks of this thread, 6 people responded, (so far) and it appears nobody knew about it, except you. It also looks like theres 150+ "views", and growing. Allowing for people actually posting, I wonder how many of THEM (folks who read but don't post) knew about it. More importantly, what impact it might have on bookings...I'm not really interested in eating off the same menu for 3-4 nights out of 7, let alone 10+ day cruise.
Amazing...850+ views for something thats "not news" or buried someplace...folks cruise, and if something strikes them, they can put it here for others to read. Not everybody has the time or inclination to go find it.
Hoping things get better before they get any worse...lowering my expectations before my cruise next month.
Not surprised. Make it monotonous to encourage people to use the premium restaurants to increase revenue. We started cruising 30 years ago because it was a pretty inclusive vacation that you can easily plan - we're off the rails now. I would expect we start seeing fuel surcharges next.
Agree with AP.
yup, we just made Platinum with NCL yet cruises with RCL and Celebrity seem much better value at the moment
The "Free at Sea" doesn't seem so free any more either. Their cruise prices have gone up dramatically and that "free" booze comes with a hefty gratuity charge added. I'm sure the surcharge covers the actual alcohol cost to NCL and the built in cost of booze on the cruise price is lining corporate pockets.
Completely agree...and its nothing new either...if you take the time to actually "comparison shop" apples to apples.....and having said that, we cut our cruise teeth on NCL.... having reached the "exalted status" a few years before the great pandemic put a crimp in alot of plans....we've explored and will continue to explore others, Lord willing. Booze has being paying the nut on millions of businesses world wide since at least forever...thats why theres at least 183 bars on every ship seems like...
