Yeh, any which way to raise $$...I got it!!! reserved lounge chair rentals! poolside $3.95 per day....further away, $1.95........I actually thought 2x about posting this...

To cap this off NCL announced yesterday that they are also raising their daily gratuity charges.

Just returned yesterday from 10 days cruise on the Nieuw Statendam. The food selections in MDR included 2 additional entrees, appetizers and desserts each night. Everything else was the same unless you decided to select from the upgrade menu. And of no lobster. On Gala night you got the jumbo shrimp instead, which normally costs $8.95 on the upgrade menu. They served carrots, green beans and mashed potatoes with almost every entree. The Lido deck served the same thing every day; the only difference you could find enough variety to eat something different each day depending on your appetite. Overall, I was not impressed with the MDR menu, although some days the food was quite delicious.

I agree, this appears to be the way of the future unless there is serious rebellion by us we will have no choice but to accept and pay more for it.

Which is EXACTLY why I suggested you could have posted that tidbit HERE. It certainly caught a lot of people by surprise. I'd bet real money most folks don't wander around reading peoples profiles, I've got a whole bunch of cruises I never reviewed, but if I had some thing I thought was interesting, let alone newsworthy, I'd put it here..

From the looks of this thread, 6 people responded, (so far) and it appears nobody knew about it, except you. It also looks like theres 150+ "views", and growing. Allowing for people actually posting, I wonder how many of THEM (folks who read but don't post) knew about it. More importantly, what impact it might have on bookings...I'm not really interested in eating off the same menu for 3-4 nights out of 7, let alone 10+ day cruise.

It was ok, it wasn't the best. It was all things like Mac and cheese or pasta, which I like, just not every night. I was more annoyed with the long waits. It took over 2 hours MINIMUM to finish dinner.

I did, in my review. The review is on my profile.

We’re there enough options on the non-changing menu to enjoy your dining experience?

Well...the article was dated March 8, and the Tuesday announcement he refers to is the same date. I've found "POINTS GUY" to be accurate. And it certainly seems from the responses thus far that it IS news, since nobody knew it.

If YOU did, based on your own or your friends recent experiences, it might have been helpful to announce it here. Thats really what this forum is for isn't it? I was toying with the idea of booking PRIMA, but as I mentioned, the deck plans don't exactly look promising, and THIS might've put the kibosh on it. Certain folks experiences while cruising is interesting info. Seems like some ships might've started early on the new long march to cheapness....

This is not news. My last cruise was on the Bliss and my friend cruised the Gem before that. The menu never changed for either cruise.

Now all the people who complain that the food was the same every night will be right! I hope you are correct, and the customer pushback will change this trend. Right now, I think the cruise lines are pushing as close to the edge as they can, assuming the loyal customer will stay that way. Time will tell. Thanks for sharing.
