How do you save for a cruise?

So I have a few pins on pinterest (that's and understatement) on various topics, and some of them are saving money for vacation. For my cruise on the Allure this past April I did the 52 week saving plan (I doubled it of course to try and save close to 3K for the cruise), but I'm curious to know how other people tuck money away for their cruises, how long do you start, how much money are you able to save?

Right now my method is work 2 jobs, and i'm trying to sell off some clothes through thredup, and some apps that have money payouts as well... Bills eat up much of what I try and save....They are slow and are not for the impatient, but hopefully the long game pays out ($20 here, $10 there).

Pennies? Pennies? We don't need no stinking pennies.

Sorry, sometimes get carried away with movie quotes .. lol

Here in the Great White North we no longer use pennies. They have been discontinued due to a lack of interest so you have to collect nickels dimes and quarters.

Would be interesting to try collecting our other coinage like the Loonie Twoonie and soon to be $5 coin but i rarely have actual money in hand (or pocket) as most day to day purchases are done via a debit card.

A big-a$$ jar that holds all our change...coins & $1/$2/$5/$10 bills. Sometimes we throw in a $20 if the budget allows.

When someone asks what I want for a gift, I say a cruise gift card or a Visa/MC gift card that I can apply to either sailing payment or spending.

We are working hard to incorporate cruising into our holiday schedule to twice a year. It really is the best way to travel.

Seems that you have a pretty good system going....What good is cable if no one is home to watch it? 2 jobs seems to be necessary these days--not just for paying your bills or travelling but just to stay ahead of the game. Plus, these days you may not get the 15-20 years from the company you work for...They don't want you to make to retirement anymore. That's why I travel while I can "work it off". Living well in my retirement years is not guaranteed. My good health is not guaranteed. No matter how well I'm planning it out.

I've got a 5 gallon jug for my pennies. It is pretty much full, but I don't feel like rolling them for the bankSad

I look at that as four cylinders of scotch emptied ... way to go John!

I have about 40 of the cylinders. some are in my workshop for nuts and bolts. Only 4 are filled with change and loonies and toonies.

We’ve both always worked at least 2 jobs each, but even then supporting our travel addiction can be tough. For us the answer is we don’t do anything else. We don’t go to the movies, we don’t go out to dinner, we don’t even have cable TV. But we do travel several weeks every year. And every purchase we make, even if it’s just a stamp, goes on an airline miles credit card to help get us where we want to go.

I was looking at one of those jars... I have one that says "Ashes of problem children" given to me by my mother (I was a HS counselor for 8 years lol)
