If you have cruised before you may be disappointed with this supplier. The ship had just come out of drydock and had about 80 percent new staff. Water dripped from many places, even while standing in the food lineups, lots of washrooms were not working, etc. The food looked awesome but had very little taste or seasonng, the lineups for seating were ridiculous with lots of empty tables, no food or coffee available after 9 pm except room service. Bar staff in most areas had no interest in serving guests.

We seldom complain but feel this is necessary and hope our experience helps someone else. After cruising many other times we had heard a lot about Holland America so we decided to give it a try. Never again. Ship was late coming in from drydock and when we finally got to our stateroom, it was filthy along with the rest of the ship. Our balcony couldn't be walked on for the dirt. Asked twice for it to be cleaned and never saw a difference even tho we were told it had been done. There are so many problems that I will itemize our complaints: 1. Ship and stateroom filthy' 2. Food below average 3. Service way below average w/rude employees 4. Most men spoke no English 5, Trash not removed a few days 6.

What impressed us the most: The captain. He was very friendly and down to earth. It was quite apparent that the crew respected and like him. He was the first ship captain we have met that wasn't a stuffed shirt. We would certainly take another cruise on the Zuiderdam because of the captain.

The ship was spotless. The crew were helpful and friendly. The excursions were fun and well organized. The food was excellent and filling! Now, the diet begins!

Ship was lacking in maintenance, many cabins had cabin temperatures over 75 degrees and I did not sleep for two nights before they adjusted it and I had to sleep on top of the bed as it was an oven. Offered to move us on the 6th day after multiple complaints They serve food on the buffet I believe to ration out the quantities that you get I had a sandwich with two skinny slices of Pastrami and had to ask for a third. I wanted bacon in the morning and had to stand in the egg line to get bacon. They ran out of coffee continually in the morning. Ship was a bad experience, to many other choices for your money. It appeared they lacked proper amount of man power and had alot of neglected maintenance.

Everything from boarding to disembarkation went smoothly. The ship is in great shape for its age and the rooms are very nice. The on board activities are pretty much what you would get on any other decent cruise line and the food was similar. The ports of call are in the industrial sections of the towns so if you're expecting something to Cozumel, you might get let down a bit. The rooms are quiet and you don't hear stomping on the floor above or the other adjoining room.

Clean and very high end, i.e. furniture, fixtures, etc good quality.

The ship and the staff were great. The food was excellent. The ship was very clean. The room were a nice size. The directions around the ship were very well marked.

overall cruise was all we expected and more except for the constant attempts to sell you merchandise on board and in ports of call as the cruise line owns all the stores they recommend and one can get a better deal from a local business owner. Did't care for the constant commercalization.

The Zuiderdam ship has all kinds of nooks and crannies to sit, visit, read, watch the water, whatever fits your fancy! I loved the design of the Lido buffet. The food choices were excellent, and healthy. The design of this area, was also designed for a more private feel. The windows were readily viewable, but the tables were arranged for amore intimate feel.

We found the crew to be exceptionally friendly and always had a greeting and a smile. They looked as though they were enjoyig themselves as much as the passengers, even if perhaps they weren't. The stateroom was clean and very comfortable. Captain Christopher Turner gave very clear and precise reports each day on our position, weather and sea conditions and what to expect over the follwing 24 hours.

Although the Zuiderdam is an older ship it was kept in good condition. Very clean and a wonderful crew.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cruise. The food was wonderful and very well prepared. the shows were fair.

The Zuiderdam was a wonderful ship. It was easy to find your way around, cabins were good sized, the crew is amazing, the food was always delicious and choices abound. The evening entertainment was wonderful, from the on-board cast of singers and dancers to the guest entertainers and all the people in the lounges. Would sail on the Zuiderdam again.

It was our first time on Holland America and we were very impressed with all the little extras on board - to include the fresh fruit in the cabins, the exceptional cleanliness of the entire ship, and the mouth watering food. The crew are all so happy - it is nice to see people that enjoy their jobs - it must be a good company to work for.
