We asked to have tables for two because we really wanted to spend quality time together. We know that this is not an easy request, and that frequently cruise lines will have more than one group at tables for dinner. However, every night we went to dinner in the main dining room, we had a table just for two.
Everything about the cruise was above what we expected, as we have cruised before, but not with Holland America. Holland America and all who work for them go above and beyond to make your stay fabulous!

Deck 8 was the highest room deck, but on the Westerdam, it is below Deck 9, the Lido deck and if someone was standing on Deck 9 and looked down, they could see us standing at the rail of our balcony. Not a big deal, we were able to see down to Deck 7, 6 and 5 as well, as that is how the ship is shaped in the back.
Be careful in the morning when they are cleaning Deck 9. Water will come down to Deck 8. It does not come into the Cabin. My husband was out there early in the morning and got wet with some water from the Deck 9 above while it was being squeegeed. We thought it was funny!
The back of the ship is the best place to be when you are in Alaska; you don't miss a thing!
Turn your phone to Do Not Disturb the entire time! Use your phone only for photos when you do not have your good zooming digital camera. You can blink and miss whales, seals and otters. They were out early in the morning (5:30 am) in Mid August every day. Do as much or as little as you want!
