Viking Var Overview

The innovative Viking Var is one of six new Longships by Viking River Cruises set to sail in 2012. With only 95 cabins and 190 passengers, this intimate 443-foot-long ship offers some exciting new features for river cruise ships including the Explorer Suites - two 445 square- foot suites that feature a separate living room, bedroom and bathroom, as well as a wrap-around veranda. The Aquavit Terrace, a new lounge with retractable floor-to-ceiling windows that can be opened on nice days, offers the perfect spot to relax while enjoying a glass of wine and catching up with friends. Aboard this sleek ship you will also find many environmentally friendly additions such as hybrid engines, solar panels, and an organic herb garden located on the sun deck. With its fine cuisine, exemplary service and culture-rich itineraries, the Viking Var will continue to set the standard in this new age of river cruising.

NEVER Book with VIKING by JoannFlynn

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

It was NOT a cruise. It was a sub-par bus tour. I will never book with Viking again.

Cruising on the Danube by Cruiser67591023

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Large Group

The Viking Var team made my vacation experience one that I'll never forget.  The longship was spotlessly clean and quite easy to move around on.  The public places were roomy, airy, and quite comfortable.  The staff was incredibly attentive and responsive to my particular needs.  The food was incredible and reflected the local culture of each stop we made. This was first trip with Viking and it certainly won't be my last.

Amazing experience by CatJones

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Family (older children)

I absolutely loved our entire experience.  The Christmas markets were a blast and I felt that we had enough time at each port to really enjoy each town.  My favorites were Rothenburg & Heidelberg.

4 Viking Var Tips

Don't be afraid to ask any questions about the trip to any of the staff. They were so friendly.

Don't hesitate to converse with the staff. They give wonderful advice and provide lots of helpful tips. However, be sure to come prepared for all personal health issues as there is not a medical staff on board and they don't have any OTC remedies available.
