This was our first Viking cruise. I would give it a 4/5 overall. Don’t plan on being entertained. Much more chill than I expected. Also, much older clientele than I expected. Average 60+ It’s a great way to see multiple cities and beautiful scenery along the way.

Traveling by river on a longship is a much more intimate experience than ocean cruising. We highly recommend it. Viking does an excellent job of coordinating this type of cruising and offering their passengers a high quality onboard and onshore experience.

I will highly recommend this cruise to people I know. The care and concern of the crew, the caring attention to its cleanliness and order, the thorough approach to excursion logistics, the quality of the meals and service, the thoughtful adaptations to the river's challenges--all taken together, one can only say expectations were exceeded. And for that, I am grateful.

Highly recommend this trip! Viking is wonderful and the cities are all a must-see!

Airline cancellations gave rocky start to trip but the remainder of the cruise was fine. The cruise seemed to be more expensive for the travel experiences and quality of food compared to other cruises we have taken.

It was NOT a cruise. It was a sub-par bus tour. I will never book with Viking again.

The Viking Var team made my vacation experience one that I'll never forget.  The longship was spotlessly clean and quite easy to move around on.  The public places were roomy, airy, and quite comfortable.  The staff was incredibly attentive and responsive to my particular needs.  The food was incredible and reflected the local culture of each stop we made. This was first trip with Viking and it certainly won't be my last.

I absolutely loved our entire experience.  The Christmas markets were a blast and I felt that we had enough time at each port to really enjoy each town.  My favorites were Rothenburg & Heidelberg. 

The intimate size of the boat was fabulous.  Staterooms as comfy as the ocean vessels.  Excellent dining and relaxing lounge.  Staff was attentive and tip top!  Included excursions were just right, informative.  Will definitely cruise another river with Viking.

Low river level on Danube interrupted our cruise and transformed the "romantic" excursion into a bus tour for Regensburg, Passau and Melk (missed Krems altogether, this was a substitute). Had to repack and change ships outside Melk for our Wachau Valley "scenic pass" - which was about 20 minutes at 5:45pm, just before dark.  Arrived in Budapest nearly a full day late, thus shaving half of the cruise's time off this key attraction. Our Veranda was rendered virtually useless on four of the seven docking days because another ship was lashed to ours side-by-side, right up against our "balcony". Viking offered nothing to offset these unfortunate circumstances. Would not recommend.

This was my first time traveling abroad.  My cruise on the Viking Var was absolutely wonderful.  The food, the staff, the tours, my room - excellent.  No complaints.

The Danube river was low so the ship did not make it to most of the promised destinations. The boat stayed in industrial locations, with boats tied up on either side, while buses (up to 3 hrs each way) were used to take us on very short tours in the promised ports. Most of your vacation is spent waiting for, or sitting on, buses. This is not the vacation we were promised. Viking wants to give us a travel voucher for a subsequent cruise but why would I trust them again? Do not travel with Viking. There are many competitors to try.

This was our first river cruise and have been very impressed with the experience. The staff works very hard as a team and happy to please guests. Loved all the tours which are part of the package along with the wine and beer at lunch and dinner. The ship was always clean and the shower didn't leak all over the floor. Was amazed at how smooth the ride is compared to ocean cruising. I have never had a trip where I have taken so many pictures; scenery was spectacular.
