It was NOT a cruise. It was a sub-par bus tour. I will never book with Viking again.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Our embarkation was in Nuremberg at an industrial port with absolutely no scenic view as advertised by Viking.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Because the majority of "cruise" was spent on a bus travelling to each major city on our tour, our meal plan was disrupted. One of our lunches was at a restaurant in Melk and consisted of over done roast beef and tater tots. Because cruise ships were used as hotels/restaurants (versus an actual cruise ship) one of our ships did not seem prepared to receive our group; therefore, meal items were limited and staff was stressed.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
What onboard activities? We were on a bus the majority of the time.
Entertainment
Children's Programs
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
The Program Director and Captains (we slept on three ships in less than a week) were more concerned with "selling" us our next cruise, convincing us why travelling on a bus was so great (actually stated that we should be grateful when compared to the deaths caused by Hurricane Michael in the states - REALLY?!), and ensuring the staff was adequately tipped then actually providing us with good service.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
The bathroom of the cabin of our second ship smelled like urine and the shower drain was clogged so we had to shorten our showers because water overflowed into the bathroom. The third ship we were on had a broken toiled seat. All three ships had dirty windows and balconies.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
See previous comments. Also, the minimal time we were on the ships, our balcony was of no use as we were either docked in an industrial site or ships were docked in tandem, meaning the only view we had was into someone else's room. Not worth paying extra for a room with a balcony.
Ship tip
NEVER book with VIKING. They know about the low water levels on the Danube for months and did not share the information in advance and then lied about conditions. They will not offer any type of refund, but rater a discount on your next cruise. This is of no value to me and I refuse to do business with companies who have absolutely not integrity.
Lots of confusion around our departure. Bus driver left 30 minutes late because Viking did not authorize him to leave. Some people almost missed their flights.
