Review summary

Don't let the 6 days at sea crossing the Atlantic deter you. Time basically stood still. The included wines at lunch and dinner were as good, or better, than anything you would buy for yourself. Befriend a few bar and wait staff, and you'll have more than you can handle (and be sure to tip them extra at the end)

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth sailing, even before sailing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Daily menu was wide and varied, with nary a repeat. There was always something new to try, to expand your palate. Buffet, meh. We avoid them, anyway, but had no choice the last night, as the boat from venice got too back late for main dining. Some people can be disgustingly unsanitary.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Nordic spa was OK. The steam room was out of commission until the last few days

Entertainment

Children's Programs

No kids on board

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Service was attentive and impeccable, which elevated the entire cruise

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Great ship, and not one of those floating city mega things.. 900+passengers, and seemed a lot less, except on Lobster night.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabon was as you expect. Cabin stewards were exceptional.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

Embarked here

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

1 out of 5
Philipsburg is a tourist trap, as tourism seems be the only industry. The island itself is very poor and dirty.

Funchal, Madeira

An oasis in the Atlantic, after 6 days of sailing. It's an awesome island and we must go back for an extended stay. The scenery was spectacular, despite lousy weather

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Again, lousy weather, but will be going back again, anyway, in the near future. https://www.boqueria.barcelona is a must visit on la rambla, wandering around the Gothic Quarter is a step back in time, and next trip, hoping for Park Güell NOT in a downpour

Marseille (Provence), France

4 out of 5
Nothing special. The harbor is nice, but tourist oriented.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

4 out of 5
Took a side trip to Nice and wandered the Old Town. Was totally surprise the beach is all rock and stone, but the marketplace was vibrant.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

4 out of 5
Took a side trip to Lucca, again to wander the Old Town, stilled walled in. Another step back in time, with a huge Piazza similar to the one in Siena.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
Great historical city. Took the viking shuttle into town, and had booked a private tour through the vatican museums. You can never do that too many times, as there is so much to see in there (really crowded, too. Book a tour or tickets in advance, or you will wait in a looooong line.

Naples, Italy

1 out of 5
A pretty decent city, but surprisingly dirty, and very crowded. Get the local sfogliatella. Warm and delicious

Corfu, Greece

5 out of 5
Another Old town, bit i guess a big hit for "game of thrones" fans, and the Gerald Durrell trilogy on netflix.. Somewhat touristy, given it's the bulk of the island's economy, but you can find decent stuff if you look

Dubrovnik, Croatia

2 out of 5
Nice countryside, but heavy traffic. The old town was nice, as they all are, but I had forgotten this was a war torn area a mere 30+ year's ago, and the damage from shelling and arms fire is evident everywhere.. And More Game of thrones locales for fans

Split, Croatia

1 out of 5
A most excellent area, especially, again, the old town. The palace is a game of thrones for the dragon, for the fans

Venice, Italy

2 out of 5
You can't get enough of venice, despite the crowds around Piazza San Marco and the Rialto bridge. Spent and extra 5 days there

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarking was quite orderly.. Viking added a bus transfer to the Santa Lucia train station during then cruise, so we took advantage of that and cancelled the private, rearranged transfer. We Saved a few hundred dollars over a private transfer
