Review summary

We had a wonderful trip and will probably do this same trip again. We loved it so much, but we will probably pick a different cruise line. After visiting with other people on different cruises, we were very jealous of their food experience. One of the highlights of a cruise is the food and the opportunity to try different types of food. The Star Princess did not deliver in this area. I can only name one dish that really blew me away and that was the Grana Padano Fondue soup at Sabatinis. The rest of the food on the ship was not up to standard like we are used to. Very bland and most of the time just warm. I don't think I had any hot food.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The buffet was similar to Golden Corral. The specialty restaurants did not deliver and the dining room food was just not good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Hot tub, bingo, slot machine tournament, casino, fitness center.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The ship was unable to accommodate passengers for the comedian so we missed out on that. The special guest speakers, like the first woman to win the Iditarod and Dirk Yonkerman the nature specialist were fantastic.

Children's Programs

did not travel with childeren.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service was pretty good. We only encountered a few crew members were sour and seemed put out.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was super clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The beds were super comfortable. The cabin was clean. A few rug stains.

Ship tip

I would get set time dining. We didn't have any trouble with anytime dining but we missed out on making a relationship with a server. Also, we brought more than two bottles of wine onto the ship and paid the corkage fees for the extras which was fine, but we found out that at each port of call, we were allowed to each bring on another bottle of wine with no corkage fee.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

We went to Pike's Market. It was super crowded.

Ketchikan, Alaska

We did not have an excursion scheduled here, so we went to a bar and sat outside in the cool air and people watched. They had some good shopping here though. I got an awesome jacket for 19.99.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

5 out of 5
No excursion planned, but this was one of our favorite days. Cruising through the Fjord was magnificent and the commentary by Dirk Yonkerman was fantastic.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
One of our favorite ports. We only had a day pass for the Mount Roberts Tramway, but we had the best time hiking the trails. We saw 3 bears!!!!!

Skagway, Alaska

4 out of 5
We took the Eagle Preserve tour. It was really fun. We rode a 45 min. ferry to Haines, took a bus to the river and did a float trip and saw numerous Eagles. I didn't really think it was worth the cost, but nonetheless, we had a wonderful time. All the excursions are hugely expensive and overpriced.

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
We took a walking tour of Victoria with a spitfire of a woman name Laurie. She was very knowledgeable about the area and provided a great tour of the city.

Disembarkation
