7 Night Alaska Inside Passage With Tracy Arm Fjord (Seattle Roundtrip)
Sail date: June 02, 2019
Ship:
Star Princess
Cabin type: Balcony
Cabin number: A337
Traveled as: Family (older children)
Reviewed: 5 years ago
Review summary
Of all our cruising experiences, this was our least favorite. The ship's amenities and excursions were below par and the cabins were small and outdated. The crew, however, was so friendly, efficient and hard-working that we hope Princess Cruise line appreciates that they are their biggest asset. If you get the opportunity to attend a Chef's Table on any carrier, take it!
Embarkation

Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Dining room meals were good but not exciting or innovative. Buffets were filling but only moderately well done.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Too cold and rainy to enjoy much outdoors but the group was satisfied with the spa and fitness centers. Several of the group enjoyed movies on the deck when weather cooperated.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Several were way below par but we saw some good comedians and a ventriloquist.
Children's Programs
Only child did not participate
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our dining room waiters and room steward were top notch! We were a multi-generational family group with ages from 7 to 67 and the staff took great care of our varied needs and interests. High praise for the people at every level of service.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Areas were clean but small and outdated. Cramped cabin sizes, not enough electrical plugs, uncomfortable beds, and plumbing issues.
Cabin / Stateroom
2 out of 5
Really tight quarters, almost no room to walk. Bathroom was very small and outdated. The storage in closet and drawers was good. Room steward was very attentive so we had nothing but praise for cleanliness.
Ship tip
Don't book a room on Aloha deck. It is just below the Lido deck so we heard running feet all the time.
Only had a disappointingly short time to visit Victoria and we totally wasted time and money on the double-decker bus tour. That was money down the drain!
I don't think the size of cabins are getting bigger on new ships. Small rooms are just one of the things you have to deal with on a cruise. The inside rooms on the older Princess ships are 160+ sq ft. RC new ships are under 150. Luckily you can see what size they are before booking so you won't be surprised.
