Sky Princess

14 Night Spain France & Portugal (Southampton Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 09, 2022

Ship: Sky Princess

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The cruise was fine but the ship is far to big for us. To crowded and very busy in the evenings as could not get into the shows much of the time. Smoking is allowed in the casino yuk! We have cancelled our next cruise with Princess and booked ourselves on a smaller more upmarket cruise line. Think carefully about what you are looking for before booking on one of these huge ships.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
A complete and utter shambles. Sat in the car for nearly 90 minutes waiting to get out due to total lack of organisation by Princess.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
On the whole excellent but avoid Alfredo’s due to staff and management issues such as no customer service. Asked for the restaurant manager, who was clearly invisible.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
What you’d expect on such a huge ship but nothing outstanding.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Generally excellent but some areas were very poor. Staff in Club Dining were fantastic.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Could not fault the suite nor the staff who looked after us, excellent.

Ship tip

If you like holidaying on. Very large ship with many amenities then this is for you.

Ports of call

Bilbao, Spain

5 out of 5
Loved this port in northern Spain but the guide was deadly dull and we went off on our own.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
Estoril, is where we headed and it was great in the spring sunshine. Lisbon we like anyway but we had spent time there previously.

Gibraltar (U.K.)

1 out of 5
Not a place we particularly like, all rather tatty and a down market UK high street. Head off somewhere else!

La Rochelle, France

4 out of 5
Loved the old town. We made the mistake of going on the Il de Rea trip, felt there was not enough there to warrant a whole afternoon in the place. Many people loved it though.

Vigo, Spain

5 out of 5
Found a fantastic place for lunch with authentic Spanish cuisine, a real treat.

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
I gave Seville a miss, explored Cadiz on foot and loved the vibe of the place. Take a map with you as you leave the ship.

Malaga, Spain

5 out of 5
A very pleasant surprise. Walkable from the ship and a great place to explore on your own.

Cartagena, Spain

5 out of 5

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Much better organised then embarkation, but we were staying in a suite.

We've sailed on Sky Princess and have to admit it can be very difficult to find a seat during the evening, having said that we're back on her in nine days.

Bigger isn’t always better. Glad you enjoyed some parts of your cruise!

If you don't like big ships don't go on them lol. We had a wonderful time on Sky and Enchanted Princess always found somewhere to chill, the only time the decks got a bit busy was on sea days.

My wife & I were on Sky Princess around Britain last year, but because it was only about 50% capacity it was OK, but we both agreed as beautiful as she is & a great cruise, we won't be going on it again as I agree just to big.

Thanks for your review. I will bo on Sky doing this itinerary April 2023. Although a beautiful ship, I agree Sky is too big! We were just on her to Iceland and Norway in June/July but felt there were not enough places to sit and relax except our balcony!
