Review summary

Alaska is beautiful, especially if the weather cooperates which it did. The excursions we participated in were all great but expensive. They were the Dog Sledding experience in Juneau, Hiking the Mead Glacier in Skagway and Viewing Bears in Ketchikan. These were not the free excursions Regent advertises. Food was a disappointment. Prime 7 was great, steaks properly cooked and served. Compass Rose was generally good but a few misses, like the lobster bisque which tasted fishy and unfortunately most of the seafood dishes also tasted fishy. Chartreuse was not to our liking. Sette Mari was at best so so, with the veal being thin and tough and the marsala having little flavor. On the plus side, their desserts in all the restaurants were excellent. They do this very well. In addition, we had the misfortune of waking up to a non-working toilet midway through the cruise. My butler said it affected the last section of the ship including the crew's quarters. Running around trying to find a useable toilet on a supposedly luxury cruise line? Really? Service was first rate. Some of the wait staff remembered us from previous sittings and greeted us by name. Our butler and steward were exceptional. Finally the promise of Regent giving you free air fare is technically accurate but initially they routed us through multiple cities with interminably long layovers. But when we were willing to fork over an additional $350 we suddenly got non-stop flights from San Francisco to Anchorage and Vancouver to San Francisco that took a fraction of the travel time we would have incurred had we stayed with Regent's original bookings. Bottom line is that we decided to try a "luxury" cruise experience, but I don't think it lived up to its billing, certainly not vastly superior to other cruises we have taken on RCL, Holland America, Princess, even Disney when our daughter was very young to name but a few.

Prime 7 was the best meal of the trip. Chartreuse was our least favorite. The Compass Rose had hits and misses. Sette Mari was only so so.

Fitness center was marginal.

We didn't attend any shows.

Ship Quality

Yes, except the day the toilets didn't work, so we had to run around the ship looking for one to use.

Cabin / Stateroom

Excellent views from the back of the ship. Our butler and steward were amazing. It was a comfortable cabin.
