Great Cruise, Crappy and Expensive Pre-embarkation experience by jdriscoll515221

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer

This itinerary covers a long distance with few towns along the route. We originated in Anchorage (Seward); in retrospect I think we should have done the reverse by starting in Vancouver. Origination in Anchorage means an overnight stay is almost mandatory to meet the schedule of buses to Seward. The Hilton is an old, crappy hotel with costs of food and lodging in the stratosphere.

If you’re looking for luxury, I totally recommend region seven seas. This was the most stress-free vacation we have ever taken. And we travel a lot.

Experience with excursions was not good. should have intervened on our behalf especially since they knew pre-cruise that there was a problem.

Japan highlights without unpacking by Faigel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer

It feels that Regent is cutting back...fewer good wine choices, no luggage tags or travel bag. Small things but noticeable if you've cruised with Regent in the past. Japanese guides were difficult to understand, shore excursions lacked excitement. Tokyo 3 day post was dismal. We abandoned it entirely and enjoyed the city immensely on our own.

Really enjoyed the Regent of the Seven Seas cruise. Some of the excursians were boring, but overall good. Really want to our trip advisor Daniel Garron, who helped us organize this trip. He went beyond the call of duty!! Booked another cruise with him!

Not What I Expected by PLG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer

I expected more from a luxury cruise line that has been around a while. I have taken 8 cruises, all with "all-inclusive" luxury cruise lines. I had hoped this would have been the best based upon ratings and reviews. It was not, unfortunately. The food, entertainment and tours could all be improved given the brand. The jury is out on whether I will book this cruise line again.

We love being on the Explorer and Splendor ships and look forward to another two cruises on the upcoming Grandeur. We enjoy being on the ships much better than whatever we do on excursions.

Disappointed by larrycgaines

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer

Very disappointed with regent, room noise was unacceptable and worse they obviously knew about it, poor safety in shower no safety bars again they knew about this, my guess is people have been injured. Broke our luggage, they returned a blouse from laundry damaged, service in restaurants sporadic, food was average , tours were average, tour guides were terrible very difficult to understand

Great Cruise by eakocian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer

We enjoyed several stops because they were in countries we had not visited before. Some of the excursions were average mainly because these sights had not been visited in 3 years so the itineraries were average.

Great ship, employees and Food. Unfortunately there were several itinerary changes that really missed the mark. by danborndal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer / Destination: South Pacific

Overall a great cruise with the employees and meals on the ship. I do believe the excursions need some work, especially those that I paid $100 - $150 for. Not sure I received the value for the money.

The Perfect Storm!!! by lkruser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer / Destination: South Pacific

The Perfect Storm!!! My wife & I cruised from Sydney to Bali on the Regent Seven Seas Explorer. The Pre-Cruise Sydney Icons & 1st half of our voyage from Sydney to Cairns was all speed ahead 5*/Excellent, however, since arriving Papua New Guinea, our voyage was reversed into 1*/Poor, given poor decision making by RSSC, including significant Excursion Tour Safety & Security Issues! The factors, which caused this reversal, we signed up for an Excursion Tour, entitled: “GUR-005 TAWALI SNORKEL & SKULL CAVE Duration: 8.00 Hrs Date: February 04, 2023 07:30 AM” Significant excursion Tour Safety & Security Issues! Drive in Buses from RSSC Explorer/Alotau Port to Transfer Destination: Three small cramped fully occupied 20-passenger buses & 56-Passengers. Three hour round-trip drive on rickety, unsafe (tires were bald, at least on our bus) & non-Air Conditioned buses and bumpy, unsaved & washed road at times (80+-degrees & 80+-humidity; RSSC advised in advance the buses may not have Air Conditioning and the road may be bumpy & unpaved at times). Transfer Destination from Buses to Boats which would take us to Milne Island: Upon arrival, there were high-surf, which were dangerous, ferocious & unsafe weather conditions. Further, there were only two small flat, fishing skiff-type & unstable boats were present, with small outboard motors, no life preservers, & no first aid kits...and no RSSC crew- &/or staff-member presence whatsoever. We were advised by the local tour operator these two small boats were our transportation to Milne Island, where an additional boat(s) would take us to the Skull Caves. [See photos of these buses & two small boats, high-surf & no RSSC presence whatsoever.] Immediately, several of us indicated we were “not” going out to sea in these conditions, especially with these only two small barebones unequipped boats and, subsequently, fairly immediately, all passengers were in agreement, and we should immediately return to ship, of which, RSSC decision makers back on ship finally relented and we subsequently made our return to ship. Before departing from the Transfer Destination back to ship, we & a few other passengers learned from the local tour operator, it was “RSSC who made the decision to proceed” with the Excursion Tour “despite” the unsafe weather conditions & barebones unequipped boats AND the “local tour operator’s multiple advisories & warnings NOT do so”. RSSC potentially put our lives & others in eminent danger ⛔️ ⛔️ ⛔️!!! [Please see screen shot photo of the text communications between the local tour operator’s per RSSC.] In summary, if we hadn’t drowned perhaps something else crime & violence-wise would have happened to us & our group of 56-passengers on the PNG Skull Cave Excursion. There are a lot of upset passengers on this ship as a result of these actions and not just us & our group, however numerous other PNG Excursions! Numerous passengers we’ve met on ship decided it wasn’t safe to get off & did not do so. We were advised by other passengers on the ship that the US, Canada & the UK governments have more severe travel warnings on travel to PNG! Someone in the higher ranks of RSSC did not do their due diligence & risking passengers welfare & lives by going to PNG and NOT listening to local tour operators warnings! The End (fortunately)! ***Update*** As we departed the ship on Mon Feb 13th, Passports & Statements were delayed to us on-ship given on-board Internet issues and, as a result, we only had an opportunity to review our final Invoice/Statement en-route home to San Diego. There was a $180 Internet charge on 01/26/2023 Location #4500. We were charged for this upgraded Internet service, which we tried for 15-minutes & immediately canceled with the ship's Business Center Representative, given was unusable & worthless, and should have never been Added on our Invoice/Statement or at least Credited accordingly.

Worst Luxury Cruise We have Sailed by chipmcbroom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

Regent Seven Seas-Explorer Cruise Review December 2022 Luxury Cruise Rating Poor 1. Embarkation: Very Poor. Rating 1. a. Long Que to Board with no sense of organization or boarding by reserved times or suite category. b. Some Rooms very unclean upon entry. 2. Cabin Suite Condition: Poor. Rating 2 a. For a relatively New Luxury Ship, Suites in very poor condition. b. Suite Bathroom had black mold in shower. c. We found a used catheter in our room upon arrival, unsanitary as a Handicap Room. d. Ridiculously small closet for this size penthouse suite, some clothes had to be hung in the bathroom. e. Poor condition of walls, floors, furniture, etc. Many scrapes, nicks, etc. Needs updating. 3. WIFI-Communication: Very Poor. Rating 0 a. We rate this a zero because WIFI mostly was non-existent for the entire voyage unless you left the ship! b. Crew offered so many excuses, but the fact is there were complete days without any ability to communicate except from the business center and another long que. c. WIFI was included but did not work, so its obvious why it was included in the fare. 4. Ports of Call: Poor. Rating 2 a. Docked at poor condition and/or industrial ports. Was this to save Regent money on port fees? b. Two Ports of call Cancelled adding 3 extra days at sea, result was more days at sea than in port on 17 day cruise. This should have been a repositioning cruise and a fare that reflected such. c. Mass confusion at each port with customs and what documents were needed to leave the ship. d. Long ques and confusion on excursion buses to board. Extra step to meet in the theatre and then receive a bus number to disembark rather than simply number your excursion ticket matched to a bus in advance. Very dis-organized every day. 5. Excursions: Very Poor. Rating 1 a. Very Poor Quality of excursions offered whether included in cruise fare or extra charge. b. Many excursions cancelled without room to rebook new ones c. Many excursions were a 5+ Hour Bus Ride to a ½ hour to 1 hour site visit. d. Very Poor Organization without many options to choose from. e. Excursion Real Time Reviews were not offered onboard as with Seabourn or Viking. 6. Entertainment: Good. Rating 8 a. Good overall quality of entertainment and the best of any small-medium ship we have sailed. 7. Explorer Ship Quality: Poor. Rating 2 a. Very Poor Quality overall for a six year old ship billed as the “Most Expensive Ship Ever Built” b. All online videos are of when the ship was new. Very poorly maintained ship c. Public Spaces like lobby and atrium still in decent shape the rest needs a re-fit d. Pool Deck needs a good cleaning and some maintenance. e. Casino was very dated with old machines and strange open/close hours. Staffing Problem? 8. Dining: Good. Rating 6 a. Specialty restaurants were overall fair to good depending upon your order. b. Room Service consistently served cool to cold food that should have been hot. 9. Crew Staff: Fair. Rating 5 a. Mostly helpful but seemed like they really did not want to help you if you had an issue b. Argued with you if you challenged their opinion on an issue c. WAY LESS STAFF To Guest Ratio than advertised. The staff to guest ratio was very low and not like the staff to guest ration of Seabourn or Viking. d. CEO and Board of director for Regent Seven Seas was fired when we embarked from Singapore and may have had an affect on the staff morale and quality of service we received on the cruise. e. Staff used Covid for selective excuses when convenient, all passengers were vaccinated and boosted prior to boarding. No active cases of Covid on-board. We were denied a guided ship tour and art tours for this reason. Made no sense as all passengers were allowed in these public spaces every day. 10. Cabin Butler: Excellent. Rating 9 a. Binay- our butler when above and beyond to help us have a Xmas Eve Cocktail party. Again we wanted to review Binay to regent online and were unable to do so because of the lack of internet service. We did not receive any hard copy review materials at the end of the cruise. b. Cabin Cleaning Steward was also very good to excellent. c. We attempted to review them online but unfortunately the WIFI was poor or non-existent to do so. 11. Disembarkation: Very Poor. Rating 1 a. Again very disorganized! You picked a time to disembark from a list the staff provided. We picked 8:45 yet at 8 am, they were asking ALL passengers to vacate the ship. b. From our Cabin to the Dock, maybe 50 yards, staff destroyed a piece of our brand new luggage. We filed a report but based upon this experience we doubt we will receive compensation. 12. Passenger Comments: Very Poor. Rating 1 a. We have never experienced a luxury cruise with this many dissatisfied onboard passengers. Many were beside themselves livid at the level of broken promises by Regent and poor service for a luxury line. b. Past passengers that sailed on this ship told us it was in poor quality and service substandard. c. Regent Pre Cruise Hotel in Singapore, Fairmont was a total disaster and very poor quality accommodations and food according to numerous passengers. Glad we did not take this option again! d. All the You Tube videos on this ship and luxury cruise line should be taken down or commented upon as to their inaccuracy. Luxury Only Cruises booking should take note of our reviews and not book future passengers on this ship or Regent Seven Seas until significant changes are made that you can verify. Our group of eight, McBroom-Cabin 916, Kosanovich-Cabin 725, Carwile-Cabin 828, Sukaly- Cabin 873 would like a reimbursement or compensation for a luxury cruise that was significantly substandard in quality from what we have experienced in the past voyages booked through you with Seaborn and Viking. All of us believe that we did not receive what we were promised and contracted by Regent. If we had some easy way to file litigation against Regent, and have a high success rate, we would embark on that path to recover some of the significant fares we paid for a very poor experience. We are all very disappointed in a very expensive trip and would like to attempt to recover some of the costs. We do NOT want a future cruise credit or anything of the sort from Regent, but will accept a refund of some type. We also would accept an additional credit from Luxury Only Cruises for a future luxury cruise booking with you. Any offer to help recover some of the fare costs would be appreciated. We also ask that you forward a copy of this review to Regent Cruise lines in Miami, Fl. relating our deep dissatisfaction with their cruise line and service.

Beautiful ship. Very well trained service staffed. The food was a bit disappointing. The excursions were very disappointing. India should be removed from their itineraries. Too many opportunities in that part of the world.

Beautiful ship and amazing sites by Jro3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

We wanted it to be the best cruise we've ever been on given the price and fantastic reputation of Regent. Unfortunately, it did not live up to those standards. The entertainment was less impressive than other ships, the food was not as good as we've had before and the over all service was significantly less impressive than other cruises. For the price, that was a great disappointment. Having said that, it feels disrespectful to the people who were there serving us as I 100% believe they were trying to please everyone, it just didn't seem like it was well organized or the execution was lacking.

So Happy to Be Sailing Again by DFI

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seven Seas Explorer / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

20th Regent Cruise. New ships don't disappoint. Service was exceptional, but helped by having only 2/3 of guest capacity. This itinerary was great, but not relaxing with a port everyday and long tours at the end. But if you are into history and site seeing, eastern Med is great. First time in Israel for me. With 3 days on ship and 3 days post cruise, we covered a lot of ground. We lost one port (Alanya) due to rerouting to address covid protocols in Israel, but it probably wasn't a port on which most people picked the itinerary. I was looking forward to it since it was new for me.
