Review summary

Beautiful ship. Very well trained service staffed. The food was a bit disappointing. The excursions were very disappointing. India should be removed from their itineraries. Too many opportunities in that part of the world.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Exhausting. After all of the pre-cruise documentation submissions, the lines and time it required seemed so repetitive. Our tour group was dropped off at the same time (probably four coaches of people at one time).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The menu for the La Veranda (buffet) has tired. The main dining room meals are beginning to become more "big" ship in experience. The specialty restaurants were better than the main dining room but the only one that really was special was Pacific Rim. The team was outstanding and the menu was interesting but appealing to many different palates.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The availability of deck (lounge) chairs was a nice surprise. The sports track had covered spaces as well as the pool area for those needing shade. The spa was a great surprise! However, in 21 days we were able to have only one spa or salon treatment. Very understaffed. We did not participate in the "points" games. A little bit too competitive and inconvenient.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We only attended a couple of the show. They were good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Thrilled to travel with so many staff and team members that understand quality service. It was rare to cross paths with anyone that wasn't deserving of 5 STARS!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful ship. The Christmas decorations really enhanced the beauty of the ship. Great emphasis on Christmas and for that, we thank Regent.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great size for 21 days. The balcony, the added casual space and extra television was also a plus. The best surprise was the size of the shower! With no bathtub our bathroom was a wonderful space for two people. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. The cabin steward, Joseph, had a beautiful mix of Christmas music playing each night when we arrived back to our suite.

Ship tip

Spend extra time studying the excursions itinerary. We were very disappointed in this part of our voyage. The guides seemed unprepared, the days were often packed with too much activity which meant we spent most of our time getting on and off of the coach. The Destinations Desk was often uninformed or just didn't know about the stops. Maybe it's been three years, regardless, this is the primary reason that we have chosen Regent (RSSC).

Ports of call

Dubai, U.A.E.

Too many stops on the excursions. We didn't have time to enjoy several of at the stops.

SIR BANI YAS ISLAND, ABU DHABI, U.A.E.

5 out of 5
Pleasant surprise. However, this was the best guide that we had the whole trip. Safaris are always fun!

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

Again, not enough time. Especially in the Palace Hotel. We also didn't realize that we were not going to stop at Ferrari Park. Main reason we chose this excursion.....

Khasab, Oman

We did not participate in an excursion. The port town was a five minute visit. Hum....

Fujairah, U.A.E.

It was a clean port. UAE is a beautiful country.

Muscat, Oman

Great Surprise! So clean and very accommodating. The souks were a lot of fun as well. We felt safe and appreciated.

Mumbai (Bombay), India

First, customs and immigration in India is absurd. Visas were applied for prior to leaving the US. Total waste of time and money. We were finger printed and had optical screening after re-doing our paperwork! Absolutely the most ridiculous process that we have every experienced traveling internationally. Again, the excursions were just difficult. Large, dirty city. Interesting but we were in a mess of traffic and the only restroom was in Gandhi's museum so I only got to see the ladies room.

Mormugao (Goa), India

Interesting. The spice farm visit was a nice break from the pollution of the rest of our India ports. The meal was fun.

New Mangalore Port, India

3 out of 5
We did the shuttle into the city center. Walked around and back to the ship.

Male, Maldives

3 out of 5
We were somewhat taken back by this stop. Our expectations were so different. The town of Male was a bit of disappointment. The locals spoke not English and we were unable to enjoy the markets. We do not dive so we are unable to rate the water activities.

Phuket, Thailand

3 out of 5
By this point we were only doing shuttles into the cities or towns. We enjoy walking the streets but it is often to really learn about the area without a guided tour.

Penang (Pulau Pinang), Malaysia

3 out of 5
Just a short visit for an overview of the city.

Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia

5 out of 5
We opted for "On Your Own" tour. We enjoyed the city for about four hours. Beautiful city with a lot going for it.

Singapore

5 out of 5
It's a great city. This was our disembarkation point.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
LONG. TOO LONG! Shame on the cruise line and the Singapore authorities for making the process dreadful! Even after filling out the digital visa for Singapore, it still took three hours to disembark.

Hmmmmm? Why would you expect the people in Maldives to speak English natively?
