Mumbai (also called Bombay), the capital of the state of Maharashtra, is the Gateway to India, signified by the Apollo Bunder, Mumbai's most famous monument and landmark. Disembarkation after 18-day cruise from Hong Kong. Spectacular room and views in the historic building of Taj Mahal Hotel prior to 11 day’s independent touring in northern India. Mumbai is a noisy, humid, exciting metropolis that contains many worlds bursting at the seams. The city is safe for independent tourists—except when you try to cross the street. Chinese restaurant in the hotel is expensive, but worth every rupee!
This was the best place we visited (other than Dubai) on our cruise. It had something for everyone. We negotiated a driver who took us to major sites of interest to us in 5 hours for a cost of $50 USD. I would like to go back to this city again as the time he had was way to short.
i highly recommend hiring Mumbai Moments. Amish was a terrific host! www.mumbaimoments.com.
