Know your ship before you go, this ship is laid out differently than most, not that's a bad thing, just an adjustment for me.

Check ahead of time the berth/terminal location at each port so you can plan ahead whether to take an excursion, take the shuttle, train, bus, or walk to town.

This ship has a great Schooner Bar. The milkshakes at the Latte a tude cafe are very good. The roast beef sandwiches in the Park Cafe are very good too.

Being drinking water with you if you are not going to get a drinks package. There is a charge for room service (even for water). And they didn't leave any complementary water bottles in the room (as most hotels do).

The Serenade was an excellent ship for this itinerary as we were in ports and on shore excursions nearly every day. If you were on a long cruise with may sea days the ship might start to seem limiting. But again, we did enjoy the layout of the ship. Decks 5 & 12 allowed you to walk continuously around the ship and even go out on the bow. Stairs were conveniently located and the elevators were abundant enough to handle the crowds.

This is a great ship to be on especially for adults. While there were activities for children, like swimming, rock climbing wall, and miniature golf, there weren’t a large number of children on this cruise. This had its advantages in that adults, especially older people, could enjoy the cruise without being overwhelmed by small children getting under foot. I’m sure the young ones on the cruise had a very good time as well however!

If you want quality pool or hot tub time, try to get back early from the ports. We were generally back on board by 2pm and the pools were empty then (also port days tended to have the best weather, so it worked out). For the New England/Canada trip, we highly recommend touring the cities on your own. Each is very walkable and easy to get around - there's even a free shuttle in Bar Harbor that can take you on a round trip tour of Acadia. The towns are generally small and can be seen in 3-4 hours, more if you want to stop in a museum or two. Save the money for shopping or on board beverages!

If you are looking to be entertained this ship isn’t for you. Great destinations and longer times in port. I’ve been on this ship twice and I love it
