Review summary

The cruise was excellent. However, as a business man, I felt the internet service provided by the ship was terrible and extremely expensive. $99 for 3.5 hours of internet is no value what so ever, I ran through my first $99 very quickly and with spotty reception. The cost of internet is the #1 reason I would not ever book another Princess cruise since I need to conduct work while I am on vacations.

thats why you unplug or when you hit port you use your smartphone

Just think- a couple years ago no internet coverage on a cruise ship for the passengers. Either business folks did not travel, left others in charge, or simply left a sign on the door. 'On a cruise. Please come back next week'.

Dude, every one of those 1's and 0's has to find its way through that big metal faraday cage called a "ship", go out the ship's transceiver, 20,000 miles straight up into space, hit a satellite, the satellite probably does some internal routing, sent back 20,000 miles to Earth, exits the cruise line's VPN, finds its destination over the Internet, again going through pretty extensive routing, then the response has to take the same route backwards. Do you honestly think that kind of innovation and infrastructure is FREE???????

@olldbob is correct. This is particularly so in Alaska which is on the fringe of satellite coverage. Even for the residents who live there internet speeds are not like they are in the lower 48. I researched this before I sailed and expected poor internet so when it actually occurred I wasn't upset.

internet cost and speed is similar on all cruise lines. it uses satalite, there are no phone masts at sea. i suggest you dont criuse if being in touch is so important
