Review summary

So this was our first cruise ever. The weather was awesome sunny and even hot.. The towns were fun and Glacier bay was really something to see. For the most part the food was good and Our cabin Steward was over the top helpful and kept things perfectly clean.

But......

1. no water package in room. I was told email our corporate office.

2. No bathrobes. I was told they were being washed

3. Complimentary to go coffee mugs took 3 trips to get finally I complained and the brought them to our room.

4.second day no bath robe was told we were not on the list to get them. ( our steward took care of that one for us.)

5. Aft bartender lady was extremely incompetent Berated other crew members in front of passengers. Rude to guest "I can't remember how to make that. Can you choose another one." to one guest. Then told my wife "I don't have the right glass to make that. And when I ordered an Irish coffee. "I have to walk all the down there to get coffee." SERIOUS exact quotes.

6. The "Share dinner " looked good but was all show no substance 6 courses of less the Denny's quality food. Staff there was very nice but the food sucked. The beef was very tough. I had a hard time cutting through. The Buffet was better. and it took a long time.

7.Room service was sub par. Tried on many occasions to order the phone just rang. Once they did answer they man was agitated. I order a club house he said "it will take an hour." I said fine he exhaled and said "fires chips or cole slaw?" I said fries and Ia glass of milk. Ninety minutes later it shows up. Half a sandwich with a glass of room temperature milk. Its sucked.

8. I place an online room service order for breakfast. It was accurate and on time but again the mic was at 68 degrees.

9.Went to the theater to go to what was advertised as a seminar about the towns we would visit shopping excursions wildlife. etc. I sat through a sham wow style presentation of jewelry stores and was pitched diamonds nothing really about anything but jewelry. I did not go on a cruise to Alaska to get a sales pitch from a 25 year old sham wow kid.

10. Was pitched "to get the best seats to see the glacier you can pay althea $60.pp to sit in the exclusive glacier seats. I  passed sat on the stern and saw it all.

11. On debarkation the lost my luggage. It took an hour to find out the color coded baggage system had issues. Cream 5 Looked a lot like Gold 5 to the baggage handlers.

My general impression of the attitude of this cruise line was shut up, get in line, give us your money.

I think 30% of the crew was personable and worked hard. 40 % were marking time and the other 30% could care less your just a F ing American.

I filled out a survey for princess but never heard from them. they really only care about milking you out of as much $$ as they can.

Really very disappointing for a first time cruiser and I doubt I would ever do it again. Total with a few trinket the entire cruise cost $5,700. That's a lot to pay to have a bad time..

Our Steward was really the only good thing about the cruise. He worked hard and made a point to know my name and be friendly.

We took the Ruby to Alaska last year. Appreciated every moment.

Ha your cruise Sounded like ours on the Ruby last year... had dinner mates from china never talked the parents and child spend all their time on cell phone. So rude and all they wanted to do is talk about the election. We asked to be moved. the food was awful. Never saw one animal or mammal and it was freezing in Alaska in July.

we are Celebrity cruisers, and on our 3rd one, it was not good! Got motion sick. When we got off, we swore off cruising. Gave it some time and went again....had the BEST cruise ever.

I think you hit some bad apples... a rarity according to what I've seen. We haven't encountered a bad bar tender (or other service employee) as you did, I would be upset too. But, I would take the time to get a name and stop by the desk to let them know. if you don't tell them, they'll have no way of knowing..then other people will get the same treatment. I've cruised a lot, and it's rare to find a bad employee.. they usually go out of their way to be gracious. I also think that all people react to the way they are spoken to and treated.. It goes both ways. Sometimes cruise employees have to put up with some pretty bad treatment from passengers... there is no excuse for that.. Sometimes they snap back.. it's not an excuse, but a reason. The cure is to treat others like you want to be treated.

Skywatcher, once again you are right on point! There are always some obstacles in life including while cruising. Maneuver around them and enjoy the moment. Ruby is a magnificent ship with great times around ever corner if you look for them.

I hear you jgoodfellow. All of your points are well taken. A few points I'd like for you to consider; do your research before you go anywhere. Maybe you did but you didn't mention it so I have to assume you didn't. Most of what you listed is arranged BEFORE you even step on the ship. Water you could have brought with you. Robes order ahead of time. Give ur room Stewart a few bucks and you'll get them within an hour. There are 2000 people on that ship to serve you. . . think you might run into one or two with a bad attitude (bartender)? You didn't pay for the $60 prime seating. You got to see the Glaciers so I'm perplexed why you mentioned that as a complaint? I felt the same way about the jewelry pitch until my wife Nicole won a free raffle for $1,200 earrings. I don't complain anymore. How I approached my cruise was the Glaciers as a priority. I wasn't going to let anything take away from that experience. I learned in life that; if a man is convinced he's going to have a bad time. . . He'll probably figure out a way to make it happen. Lastly, you have 6 total reviews and nothing over 3 stars. Even a few 2 stars. Not sure if anything on earth would meet to your satisfaction. I'd say this to you; try cruising again. . . . If you don't like it after that? Go two more times! HAPPY CRUISING!!!!
