December 2014 cruise by khertman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was nice as usual.  Everything thing first class as with all Princess Cruises.  The entertainment was not very good.  There was almost no place to dance in the evening unless you would like to have three floors of people watching you and still no real place to dance after 10pm with live music.  I would give the main production shops a C mostly because one of the lead singers was very poor.  Food in the dining room in the even was EXCELLENT as was the service.  My wife and I felt the cruise was geared to a very old group (we are 65) with very little activities. We will continue to go on Princess but not on the Royal Princess.  We have been on over 15 ships in the past so we know a little about what we think.

menu selections by patsmail80

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The menu items for dinner (dining room and buffet) were so high class, there really wasn't much available for the average taste buds.  We found we used the room service and the outside grill more and more.  We found the shows to be quite bland.  Where has the colorful broadway shows gone?

We found the ship to be very clean and all staff members were polite and helpful.

Newer ships are hard to beat! by litletonco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Great to be on a newer Princess ship and couldn't get enough of the "whistle" when we left port.

Wish the production shows were better, wait in your seat 45 min for a 30 Motown tribute, really?

Bad this about the Regal Princess is you can not walk the outside of the Promenade deck.  If you want to walk outside you have to do 7x around the little track on deck 18.  Really enjoyed walking the Promenade deck at different times of day on other ships.  Head many complaining about this as well.

Very good experience by gottaride

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Getting on the ship went smoothly.  I had an interior cabin with a queen bed.  The bed was very comfortable and although the room is small, there was plenty of space for clothing and accessories.  Did not like the shower curtain - much prefer other ships that had a plastic sliding door system.  Also water pressure in the shower was very low.  Food was very good and very tasty without tons of salt.  Loved the fact that there was very limited smoking allowed on the ship (only on deck 18 aft and small part of casino).  I have been on cruise lines that allowed smoking on one side  of the ship's pool decks and it always blows my way!  Loved the cabanas around adult pool - truly a relaxing and luxurious feature.  The entertainment was great and loved the 3 deck piazza.  There was always something interesting going on.  Disembarkation was also smooth, easy and I did not feel "rushed" to get off the ship.   Would highly recommend this cruise.

Highlights and low lights by Funtimer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Royal Princess is a large ship with a capacity of over 4,000 passengers and fairly new commissioned in 2013.  We had a mini suite which was one of the highlights with extra room, however the balcony was small as compared to other ships we have traveled on.  The cabin attendant was excellent, plenty of activities, numerous opportunities and choices of food available.  The Islands we visited were all new to us and one of the main reasons for this particular cruise.  I feel the design of the theater is poor, there are no aisles on the sides to exit and no way reach the middle section except to walk over people.  We usually choose anytime dining and have always enjoyed it, however it did not work well on this cruise, longer lines and even reservations did not seem to work.

Kind of disappointed by jmarsicek

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship seemed to be very difficult to navigate. To get to one formal dining venue that is on deck 6 you had to go to deck 7 and then walk down to deck 6.  The food court on deck 16 was not a court as on other ships.,  There were different rooms for each category of food selection.  The desert room the pasta room the salade room etc.  The ship was new so all was in good condition.  The drinks are still over priced  as with most all ships.  Three days at sea was a little bit much especially when two days are at the start of the cruise.

Pleasant cruise to Scandinavia and Russia by skydivejoe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This was a pleasant cruise to some destinations that I have always wanted to visit and St. Petersburg did not disappoint us!  That was clearly the highlight of the cruise but we also thoroughly enjoyed Stockholm and Berlin and Copenhagen and Oslo, in that order.   The disappointment with the cruise was the ship, the Royal Princess.  The food was mediocre, at best.  While the ship is almost brand new, the layout of the decks and dining rooms was poorly planned.  Promenade deck is ruined by the placement of the lifeboats.  There is no deck that you can walk around the entire ship without having to go inside to get around some obstructions.  There are no stairs in the center of the ship so you have to wait for a crowded elevator to go up or down a couple flights or go to either end of the ship to get to the stairs.  There are two dining rooms stuck midship so to get from one end of deck 5 or 6 you have to go up to 7 and then back down.  Also, the crew were not a happy lot and it was clear that they were unhappy that the crew overall had been cut back by ten percent and they were working harder than they should have.  Also, there were bugs on the outside decks that should have been cleaned up.  We have cruised on Cunard and Celebrity and, unfortunately, the Royal Princess just does not measure up, especially to the Celebrity Silhouette which we think is the best large ship out there at this time.

A bit disappointed by gesserd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Ship too big. Too many people

Not enough elevators.

Stairs missing mid ship

Breakfast buffet – serving mostly different kinds of meats, almost no dairy products

Going on a cruise to northern Europe and have to ask a waiter for lox/nova at breakfast?

Dining room food had very few vegetarian choices.

If it's Tuesday it must be Belgium by Jawjet

although I had a good time I felt there were too many ports and too little time. The Royal Princess is beautiful and the cruise experience was wonderful ( except for the elevators).

It's All About The Ship by FJLeal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Royal Princess is simply the nicest Princess ship to date. All the usual great service, accomodation and entertainment are standard faire on Princess. The ship has all of the elegance you would ever want at a reasonable price. Of all the cruise lines they give you the best value. Understand they will be adding new "stops" in the Caribbean next year. The 10 Day Southern Medley cruises, east and west, are simply a quick way to see most of the island countries.

Much less than expected by bobmaiorino

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Average food, repeative menu, confusing layout of ship, requiring the traversing of elevators and stairs to get to desired destinations.  Smallest stateroom balconies, including "mini suite", barely fits two adults. Had to remove table into the stateroom in order to sit on balcony with any degree of comfort. Service was good. Best feature (costing an additional $180 per day) was the Sanctuary Cabanas, within the "private" part if the Sanctuary. I'd only sail the Royal if I could be guaranteed the cabanas for the full cruise.

Nice ship, missed port by Volfan47573604

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Beautiful ship, attention to cleanliness. Food and food service was great. Poor design as to main dining room access... hallways lead to aft area, but you must navigate stairwells or elevators to make the final few steps to the main dining rooms. Our main disappointment was the missed port (Princess Cays... the private island) due to what the captain deemed was unsafe wave levels for tendering. This was the second day of a 7 day cruise, and there was plenty of time on the agenda to make an alternate port call on the return portion of the voyage or at least allow extra time at one of the other ports. The same thing happened our our last cruise with the sister company to Princess, Carnival. Nothing extra added by either of these two companies to ease the pain of a missed port. There should be a plan B for ports that require anchoring and tender craft. I appreciate the safety consideration, if in fact that was truly the case, but we paid for a port that was not delivered. I will cruise Celebrity or Royal Caribbean next time.

wait in line for an hour every time any time dinning. by michaelmsweeney

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ships dinning rooms need to be biger or better run.  I am sure that will not happen.

This was a concern of many of the people , and many who cruise with Princess a lot.

this was my frist  cruise. If  I may go again it might be with Princess but not on the Royal Princess!

Things seem very confusing the flow of things was bad.  The elevators were not set up as they

should of been, most passengers that could take the stairs did so a lot.

When concerns to managers they weren't concerned !!!

The ship was beautiful the lower-level staff couldn't have been better. The ship was clean and

the food was very good when you got it. Michael SweeneySurprised

Royal Princess Disappointing by gailjimbeau

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship's public areas were nice, as we expected for a brand new ship.   We cruise frequently and prefer to only eat dinner in the dining room a few nights per week, the Royal's buffet was a big disappointment.  The buffet food was just barely OK due to; lack of shell fish seafood selections and very limited pork or red meat selections, sorry meat loaf for dinner is not a good carving selection in my opinion.  The one night the buffet had shell fish they charged a surcharge, sorry but I am not paying $30 to serve myself.  Our mini suite was only fair, due to the fact that they decided to make almost all the balconies so small they are not very pleasant to sit out on.  We have cruised with Princess over 30 times, we will cruise with Princess again but not on the Royal.

The food was awesome, the service was awesome also.  Only had 1 rainy afternoon on a Friday so we packed for Saturday night as to make use of the sunny day coming on Saturday.  Watched a movie in our room while packing.  Everything on the ship was fantastic!  Highly recommend Princess Cruises!  Next one - to Alaska!

Chase and Danielles Royal Adventure by iuka2004

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

From the minute we embarked till we disembarked was amazing. The crew was spectacular, always quick with a smile, and always quick to help with directions on the ship, or places to see onshore. We cruised with two other couples, and dined everynight with them for dinner. The food was amazing, a great selection, and the server, Darko, was very knowledgeable, an incredible scense of humor, and was a great teller of stories. We spent a few hours every night at the Casino, and the Casino Bar after dinner, and absolutley fell in love with our bartender, Tess. Our room was great, we had a balconey, and having breakfast sitting out on our balcony was a great way to start the day. I have nothing but the highest praise for our Room Steward, Glenn. Our room, M624, was always clean and in order, the head was sparkling. I have and will continue to recommend Princes Cruises to family, friends, and strangers.

Royal princess by JohnP38

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Royal princess is abeautiful ship and made this a very enjoyable cruise.

We loved the layout of the horizon buffet. But the buffet seemed to fall way short

of other princess ships. It seemed trhe same food was on the line every day. kind of made

you wonder if they kept giving us secondd hand food.

The Casino was really nice. AS usual the employees of princess were as good as they always are.

Royal Princess 7 night Eastern Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale Florida by yogagirl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ships main dining room food was poor.  Our party of 10 returned food for oversalting or poorly cooked.  To get an excellent meal, plan on spending more money going to the speciality restaurtants.  Theater shows were only 30 minutes long and productions were very fair.  We could only get a 6 P.M. reservation for Anytime dining and had to rush to get to the 8:30 P.M. show in order to find  seats.  Unless you were there by 8P.M.  most seats were taken.

Common areas seemed small for a ship carrying over 3000 passengers.  It was very difficult to find lounge chairs at the pool during sea days.   You may have to find yourself paying a hefty fee to reserve a lounge chair at the Princess Sanctuary.  Only when we stayed aboard the ship during port days did we enjoy sitting around the pool.  We decided not to go into town or the beaches in St. Thomas because there were 3 ships docked the Allure being one them with 6,000 passengers.

We had a mini-suite cabin which was fine, but our friends complained about how small their regualr balcony cabins were.

Our party have all been on many luding Princess and we were agreed this cruise and ship was very disappointing .
