Review summary

This cruise was a great value. The food, service, and ports visited were really a treat. I did this as a last hurrah before starting graduate school and it was a great choice. The last day we had rough seas, but we were still able to enjoy a movie in the theatre, bingo and a final dinner with our great waiter Boris!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Easy breezy, all staff were friendly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was great, but the service was excellent. Our main waiter Boris was exceptional! The Windjammer was great for breakfast and lunch. Had bad service in the dining room one morning for breakfast, it seemed the waiter forgot to put our order in and it took 45 minutes to receive 4 people's breakfasts.

Main Dining Room

5 out of 5

Boris, our main waiter in the Edelweiss was awesome. Funny and a great personality, kept us entertained but was also very knowledgeable about the menu.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
It seemed the activities were geared more toward an older crowd. There were several free stretching and dance classes.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
It seemed the activities were geared more toward an older crowd. The nightly shows were average. Luckily with so many ports, it did not bother us much.

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Overall, the service provided by everyone on the ship from bar staff, to wait staff, to room staff was great.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was clean, but it is definitely showing it's age.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
It was small, but we knew this when we booked. There were lots of drawers and space to put away our large suitcases even for a 7 day cruise. We were not in the room much which is why we booked the lower stateroom, we were there to enjoy the ports and ship itself.

Ship tip

Try to explore the first day to get your bearings.

The port had many shops upon disembarking. We did an excursion not through the cruise line and it was great. It ended up being a 'private' tour, not that we planned it that way. But our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
This port is newer and built specifically for the cruise industry and it shows. It's much nicer than the other ports but still didn't have any shops that I was interested in.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
About as easy as embarkation.
