Be sure to book shore excursions. You need to get off the ship to experience Alaska. Oops - here is another - In July, we had rain every day except one. Be prepared for rain and cooler weather.

Take the white pass train excursion. It was fantastic. Walk around Icy Strait area, I seen many whales along coast. Book your return transportation to departing airport early in cruise( service desk) Train is fantastic way to see the scenery. First train leaves around 7 am, it took about 4 1/2 hrs

The specialty dining at Chops has always been well worth the extra costs and comes highly recommended. We always book a specialty restaurant on our cruises!

met first time cruisers who were so underwhelmed, didn't see why cruising is so good...told them to try a bigger and nicer ship..then they will be overwhelmed! and check your cabin if you get a balcony to make sure its what you want

Chops Grille is a real bargain and the food is delicious. The Mystery Dinner Theater was a lot of fun and the food was excellent. I would also take the time to go to the Aurora Theater for some of the shows in the evening.

On the last nite of the sail, we decided to do 'Chops' instead of My Time Dining (which was also excellent), but the meal at Chops really capped of the trip.

We loved - highly recommend - the Crab Cracker Seafood Bar in Ketchikan AK, a little hidden and thus without the huge lines that the more prominent seafood places had. Also for rainy Ketchikan, have umbrellas, wool socks and water-resistant boots available even for just walking around town.

Go to lunch in the main dining room on the sea days--the only time you'll taste a dessert worth mentioning again. Plus, the lunch specials are excellent especially if you want some international cuisine flavors.
