Gorgeous views and great service, but an older ship and pricey activities.

Review summary

While the views were gorgeous and the service was superb, the ship was rather old and lacked amenities that together with pricey events and smaller ports of call, created a lot of free time spent not doing much.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
While service was great, we had to run in the rain from our train to the ship, and there was an overall lack of tents and protection from the elements as we went up to it which was rather unpleasant.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Superb service, attention to detail, and delicious food.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The onboard activities were quite lacking and many of the on-deck events cost extra and were rather pricey.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The shows were not of the same calibre as on other cruise ships and were quite a disappointment.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Absolutely amazing service, all of our needs and questions always anticipated and answered, and we always felt seen and heard.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship itself is quite old and has a lot of old features that inhibit a seamless vacation, such as a lack of internet connectivity or things to do.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The size was a tad small and the furniture old, but we had wonderful views, privacy, silence, and the cabin had everything we needed.

Ship tip

Do not count on internet working at all during your cruise, and pack binoculars to watch the gorgeous views.

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

1 out of 5
There was practically zero protection from the elements from our Grandview Train dock as we were boarding the ship and it was pouring rain.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
Gorgeous views, the ship rotated for everyone to see, and a great introduction to Alaska.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Plenty to see and do.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
helicopter tour was once-in-a-lifetime, and Skagway is perfectly cozy for the time there

Haines, Alaska

4 out of 5
Haines is perfectly cozy for the time there, even though there isn't much to do due to its small size.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

3 out of 5
Very overly touristized "adventure park" for Alaska.

Ketchikan, Alaska

3 out of 5
Very overly touristized as well.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska Did not visit port

This was not really a port of call but rather a day at sea. The views were noentheless wonderful.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
Plenty to do an interesting introduction to Canada.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Extremely fast and hassle-free.
