Review summary

We will do Alaska cruise again....We liked flying into Anchorage and going Southbound ending in Vancouver. We took a bus to Seattle and toured there for several days before flying home.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Royal set an embarkation time, we literally walked on, no lines, COVID & security check was a breeze.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Cooking for a cruise ship has got to be daunting you will never please everyone. Food was great buffets had good variety. If you went hungry it was your own fault.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We didn't use activates much, weather was awesome if you wanted to do pools, and mini-golf.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The shows could have been better, but you won't please every audience. Live music was awesome from piano bar, guitar & vocals with sing along. We had a magician he was "AMAZING"... shows were good we went every night except one which didn't interest us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Top notch service from food service, room steward and ship staff. They did an awesome job keeping us fed and ship running.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is a bit older and smaller but the layout was good, ship was spotless.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great Balcony on 10th floor behind captain & navigation. Wonderful views and plenty of space for the two of us.

Ship tip

We over packed and Alaska weather was very good no rain at all. Radiance offers laundry service we took advantage of that a couple times. I'd pack little less and have more space for swag.

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

5 out of 5
We loved Seward, this was our port of embarkation we arrived early and went deep sea fishing which we highly recommend. Great town and people.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
Would have like to gotten closer to the glacier...we were going in as Norwegian Sun was coming out. They had hit a growler "floating ice" and had to head to Seattle for repairs. The excursion was on an aluminum boat which we were glad we didn't do as the ice field didn't allow them to get very close. Later in the year is a good time to go as the wind blows the ice away from the glacier and cruise ship can get closer.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Good port we docked on the far south end. A $5 shuttle was good all day if you didn't want to walk to town about a 15 minute walk. We did a sea kayak adventure and saw whales, sea lions and bald eagles.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
This is the place to shop for T-Shirts and gifts...best prices of all the ports. We had a Royal Day the President of Royal was on the Ovation of the Seas and Royal had a bunch of fun activities setup in town. We did the zip line adventure which was a blast.

Haines, Alaska

5 out of 5
If you do two stops or ports in a day make sure you book excursions early. We missed out doing one we wanted to do. We still had fun, the town isn't very big though and few shops open post covid.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
We had a medical emergency while in Haines which delayed or arrival into Icy Strait Point (Hoonah). We were told this is very rare a cruise ship is delayed but we were 3 hours late. We had booked a full day of Halibut Fishing and only got to spend 3 hours fishing. We caught fish and had a great time...super disappointed we weren't able to take advantage of the full day.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the Zodiac boat tour, saw seals, bald eagles and followed a whale for almost 2-miles. Lots of fun options in Ketchikan along with an amazing town and shops.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

5 out of 5
Keep your eyes on the water we saw whales, orcas, seals, jelly fish, seal lions, sea otters while cruising along....

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
We did the suspension bridge park, amazing absolutely go do this...the bridge, cliff walk and tree bridges were fun. We also rented e-bikes and rode around Stanley Park which is absolutely is the way to go...

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The night before we left two bags out for porters to take, we disembarked on time when our group was called and picked up our bags. Consider, scheduling a rideshare as taxi line was very long. We were glad we did.
