Fabulous, as usual! We love QM 2 by CaptJackRussell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

My wife and I regularly travel back and forth from NY to Southampton with our 2 Terriers. The experience has been 5 Stars each and every time. The dogs love it, too. The Kennel Masters have all been outstanding, with Oliver edging out others only by a small amount. With an endeavor as ambitious as moving that huge city on the water around the world, usually with only overnight (or shorter) stops in port to re-stock and re-fuel, it's a wonder they are able to maintain the amazing high quality of the experience and keep the staff in what appears to be a perpetually cheerful mood. We highly recommend the experience and look forward to the future.Happy

not as Cunard used to be by fat by susanainvegas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

Cunard is overcharging singles which makes travelling with them out of the question .  the trip was extremely overpaid for the services they provided, starting with cabin stewards being overworked because of personnel cuts, the food was good but not up to the former standards, the tours while very pricey were not very good, the cabins show the 11 years of the vessel.  All in all, I will no longer travel Cunard because I can do it for much less with Princess for the same type of voyage.

About Average by wmarder

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Caribbean

If this wasn't a luxury liner, my opinion of the cruise would have been excellent. However, my expectations of Cunard left me feeling less than satisfied. Everything was just 'fine'. Nothing stood out as excellent.

Queen Mary 2:Royalty by CunardFan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

There is no finer ship in the World than the Queen Mary 2.  She is THE Ocean liner that all others to come, will have to live up to.  As an experienced sailor, I can say that I was extremely pleased to be on this Royal ship when seas approached 20 feet and winds exceeded 50 knots.  There was almost no movement despite the seas.  I was amazed.  Our room was well appointed and the balcony is a must.  We left the door open every night so we could hear the ocean.  The sound of the ocean is a natural sedative.  The food was great and the service was wonderful.  Many of those working aboard the ship are away from their families for 6 or 9 months at a stretch and some generosity goes a long way in winning them over.  Sorry, but that's how the world works.  By the end of the cruise we were like family.  There was so much to do on board including a Planetarium, Canyon Ranch Spa, concerts, speakers and a nice casino.  The Veuve Cliquot Champagne Bar is magnificent and high tea is in a word, elegant.  My wife and I loved it so much we are already planning another Trans Atlantic crossing next summer.  When we disembarked, we were very relaxed and unstressed.  There's something about being away from land and civilization for a week.  To sum it up, The Queen Mary 2 offers much welcomed civility in an uncivilized world.

Norway Experience by BrianUphoff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Our family has taken many cruises, I suppose it's become a fun, affordable way to share experiences together.  Families enjoy many ways to get together, but traveling aboard ship together somehow brings us together in ways only our ancestors knew in the same way.

In our experiences we have never before seen, or been aboard any ship like the Queen Mary2.  Whatever your expectations, if you haven't been in a Queen's Grill Suite, with the butler, and your own lounge, and 5 star restaurant dedicated just to your class of stateroom, then your not traveling in the manner you could or should.

These folks have been there before, and they want to help you.  It makes traveling like a fun and exciting fantasy world that you clearly understand you can come back to, anytime your able.  In actual fact, our Father is doing exactly that right now, booking I thing a round the World cruise right now.  And my wife and I were quite serious that when we consider our next cruise, we'll simply look at where the QM2 is, and then off we go!

The spa is amazing, one needs to sign up right away for the entire trip for access to the saunas, and pools.  You'll meet great people, and have just one more paradise like Eden to sneak off to while on board, and on our case it was something like $10.00 a day.  I really liked the wet sauna, then the rain shower, before entering the spa's pool, with all it's waterfalls, and jets, and room for 30 people, it's great.  In this place we met the Pastor who married my 83 year old Father to his 79 year old childhood sweetheart.  The concierge on the 9th deck, Marco, arranged everything.  We had flowers, wine, a private conference room with bar access, right down the hall.....even the photographer wore a formal Kilt!

The food on the ship was above expectations.  The service in the Queen's Grill was top notch, period. My family has owned and operated more than 20 restaurants for more than 5 generations.  We know a lot about great service.  My best friend, his brother, and their uncle were all graduates of the CIA, (the Culinary Institute of America), your dining room staff was of this quality, perhaps the best in the world.  They know this, and are proud to demonstrate their skills, for free, and it's something to enjoy daily, in fact, several times a day!

Our Butler and his assistant, were like friendly ghosts.  If we wanted to chat, ask questions, somehow they where there, happy, smiling, and anxious to get your needs nailed down.  By the end of the trip I was seriously daydreaming about hiring on of these guys to work for me full-time.

The ship's facilities were World Class, casino, pools, outdoor things to do, golfing, a movie theater with a really cool planetarium that is so popular that you have to get tickets, but don't worry, your butler can get you some.....

Save up. and pay up, one never regrets buying the best.

Not worth the Hyoe by LeoPappalardo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The Queen Mary 2 was one step above a Carnival Cruise.. I can tell they own Cunard..

We sail from brooklyn -Halifax-Boston back to NYC. The best part of the Queen Mary 2 , it was the smoothest ship i ever sailed on.. Now for the Cons... They Nickel and dime for everything.. Diet coke fro 4 bucks.. The food was below par and very limited selection eithe in the dining room or buffet.. The ship is showing her age and the sheets had wholes and the stateroom furntiue had some miles on it.. NO attention to detail and sometime waited over 30 min between courses for food,, Drinks you waited 10-15 min.. It was raining one day  and no umbrellas as you got off the ship to help guest stay out fo the rain. THey say white glove service. THAT is a joke.... I would not sail on them again for the price u oaid.. 1800 per person for a 6 day cruise

QM2...How to Insult Your Queen's Grill Guests by MitchQM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

I am a regular on this ship.  Still amazed about the treatment you receive in relation to the money that is spent.

Here are some recent experiences onboard (World Cruise segment from March 14, 2014 through May 9, 2014:)

1. I reserved the Q-4 penthouse.  On boarding, I advised the butler the room was too hot.  The air conditioning was not

working properly.  He then advised the concierge (standard procedure.)  Nothing changed for the first 4 days.  When I

talked to the concierge, she advised that the work order had been submitted 4 times (of course, she did not bother to

follow it up by phone from what I gathered.)  So I had to resort to a contact I have in the purser's officer.  Luckily I knew

someone who could remedy the problem.  Finally, the party in the purser's office had it fixed.  For what I paid Cunard, they

could have installed a new air conditoning system.

2. I had a guest joining me enroute during the trip.  Since they signed up at the last minute, they were unable to get a copy of

the itinerary.  This was needed in order to obtain a visa from China.  When I asked the concierge, she advised she was unable

to get a copy of the itinerary and would get back to me the next day.  The next day came and never heard anything back.  So

out of desparation, I contacted the Maitre'D of the Queen's Grill Restaurant.  He then was able to set up a meeting with someone

from the purser's office.  It was only then I was able to get a copy of the itinerary.  The concierge was useless.

3. I asked the concierge to delivery a copy of my onboard account statement every two days while aboard (for a total of 56 nights.)

Not one statement was ever delivered.

4. I asked my butler to delivery a bottle of wine (from the stateroom) to the Chart Room.  This way, I could enjoy my favorite wine, which

was not available in the Chart Room.  Later that day, I received a written note from the concierge that "your request to deliver the bottle

of wine to the Chart Room was NOT APPROVED by management."  What kind of idiot would not approve my request?  After getting

this news, I advised the butler this would be my last trip on the QM2 because of the note I received.  After that, I went to the QG bar

for a drink.  Shortly after, the butler came into the bar and let me know they 'decided to approve my request.'  This illustrates what I

was told by a few of the crew.  The more you complain, the more you get.  I am usually not a complainer, but in this case, I had to say

something.  Well, the next day, I went to the Chart Room and the servers advised me the manager still was not going to permit me to

send a bottle of wine to the bar.  This despite the approval of the upper management.  How insulting!  In addition, the manager decided

to audit my room account to see how much wine I was buying!!  What a complete moron.  Here, I am spending over $75,000.00 for a

two month cruise and this corporate idiot is checking on my wine purchases!!  It's people like this who are probably responsible for alot

of passengers not returning again (you can add my name onto the 'not returning list.')  For liabiliity reasons, I will not state the name of

the manager involved.  But you can be sure I made mention of it in the survey that is given to you right before the end of the cruise.

Evidently, the people selling liquor really don't care what you paid for your stateroom onboard.  Their only concern is the sales figure for

the bar.  By declining a simple request from a passenger, they lost someone who has spent 100s of thousands of dollars on their ship and

who will find another ship that appreciates the business.

We loved our time on the QM2 and would book a cruise with Cunard any time. Friendly and helpful staff and spotless stateroom. The food was sublime. The QM2 was recently rated as one of the top 5 ships for sea day activities. Every nook and cranny on this ship is interesting.

We're we on the same ship? by greekgirl222

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

I have read many reviews of the cunard line and am greatly puzzled. Yes this was my first transatlantic crossing but I am far from naive. My crossing was near perfection!! My only small problem was yes, the internet was slow and expensive, but it's a holiday and next time I won't bother. My cabin was superb and my attendant was flawless. I ate in britannia every night with fun, educated and cultured people. We too were curious as to why so many whiners. I say, if the common folk offend you, go upstairs with the billionaires and chill! Yes I saw some bad manners in king's court but that's the world people. I would not hesitate in a second to recommend the cunard line, to me the glass is half full, etc. Enjoy!!

QM2...Review of Q-1 and Q-2 staterooms by MitchQM2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

I have been a regular on this ship for the last few years.   Here are some observations:   1. I always stay in Q-1 or Q2 staterooms (duplexes) in the stern.  However, I will not again.  There are a few problems with this area of the ship.   Firstly, there is constant noise from the deck above (deck 11.)  It is the Queen's Grill Lounge area. All day and evening, you can hear lounge chairs being moved around, footsteps, etc.  Also, the deck is power washed in the wee hours.  This is a major disturbance.  There is no soundproofing between deck 11 and the ceiling of deck 10.  I have advised this to Cunard on numerous trip surveys and nothing has even been done about it.  I would think the revenue from one trip in this area (5 duplex staterooms) would pay for this refurbishing.   Secondly, the balconies are mostly over the smoking area below on deck 8.  So if you go onto the balcony, most times there is cigarette smoke rising up.  Also, there is smoke and particles emanating from the incinerator smoke stacks above the balcony.     Finally, the refrigerator is 'stocked' with cheap champagne and beer.  If you want a decent bottle of wine, you must pay for it.  I found this quite insulting, as my bills have always run into the 10s to 50s thousands of dollars for longer trips.   The butler and staff are the only saving grace.  Basically, their challenge is to make up for all the deficiencies that Cunard imposes on its passengers.  They are underpaid, overworked, but still, service with a smile. It would appear the housekeeping (and other staff) are exploited by Cunard (i.e. Carnival) based on everything I was told.  Low pay, long hours, charged for use of internet, and limited advancement.   The Queens Grill dining area is another story.  I found the food and service excellent. However, the noise level is very high for an 'intimate' dining room.  I usually get there right at opening or at closing to avoid alot of loud tables.  If my surrounding tables are extremely noisy, I go up to the Todd English restaurant for some peace and quiet.

Tom & Carol by tomcarol200

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

For a dancing couple, the nightly Queen's room and G32 venues are so fine. The Nightclub G32 band, \"XtaSea\" was a fun alternative to the ballroom orchestra; they are very good. All music was ballroom danceable.... waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, NC2S, EC-Swing, etc. The expert on-board dance couple did great performance shows, and learned more with the free daily classes.

Quit the Queen by portorangehouse

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Queen Mary 2 / Destination: Transatlantic

From the beginning, this cruise experience brought dissatisfaction and annoyance. In our \"upgraded\" cabin, the vibrations were so intense, the Deck Manager was summoned to witness our vibrating bed. We were then moved (after all unpacking had already been done) up one deck to a slightly better accomodation. The lesson here is NEVER trust the cruise line with your selection of the \"GTY\" option. Moving on to the food quality in the buffet lines and lunch in the dining room...like choke me with a spoon...both the quality of the food and the service was abysmal. In seven days with about four meals a day (approx. 30 meals) maybe only two meals were actually good. Lastly as far as activities were concerned, don't bother to cruise this line if you have kids or are expecting american standards of excellence. Overall, the QM2 is a big \"swing and a miss\" on every level.
