The food at Lido is always surprisingly bountiful and excellent. Use the Launderettes so that you need not bring too many clothings. Check the purchase tax before you make any purchase. Make sure you exercise on the ship.

If you are doing a Panama Canal Full Transit, book a cabin as far forward as you can on deck 6. The doors, normally closed to guests, are opened for the entire transit. You have a panoramic view of the Canal just steps away from your cabin. Also, this area is far less crowded than the main deck.

We actually travelled on 2 sectors of the World Cruise - 42 nights - and apart from an incident with a mentally ill relative the trip was marvellous. We met people we had travelled with on Cunard previously and met new friends who happen to live close by in Australia, with whom we keep in touch.

Don't sail the Queen Elizabeth expecting total luxury - it is basically a mid-value cruise ship. I guess the Grill Suites were luxurious, but we were definitely excluded. Missed the turn down surprises and fruit carving brunch on last day at sea.

Do not attempt to use the ships appalling Wi-Fi connection if you value your sanity. Also avoid buying any "extras", they do not represent value for money.

Take the lefts to the 9th deck or the 3rd deck for walking from bow to stern so that you have beautiful common areas to traverse rather than narrow cabin hallways. ALWAYS go up to deck 9 or 10 for the sail away. It's the most exciting part of the cruise experience.

Always have dinner in the main restaurant, and for ease have breakfast and lunch in the buffet restaurant - we did.

This is not a party ship. And if you don't like dressing for dinner not your ship. Informal in the main dinning room requires men to wear a jacket, no shorts or blue jean allowed in public areas after 600pm. On formal nights if not dressed only allowed in Lido buffet and one bar on 9th deck. But if you want to enjoy the elegance of bygone days of the great liners this is the ship.
