Review summary

Overall a very enjoyable cruise with ports we have been to before and will go to again. The crew and staff were very friendly and hard working and this was a factor in ensuring we had a very good experience.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Excellent - after checking in and getting our cruise cards we went straight on the ship. There was no waiting at all.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main restaurant was very good - both the food and the service. We used this for dinner in the evenings. Good choices on the menus. We used the Lido Buffet for breakfast and lunch. A good choice of hot and cold food each day. Sometimes for me the problem was when to stop. But all food on my plate was eaten. There was a choice of fruit juices for both breakfast and lunch and decaf coffee was available “on tap” unlike some cruise lines who only provide the sachets for you to make your our. We did not use the speciality restaurants - why would we when the main restaurant provided more than an adequate choice included in the price of the cruise.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We attended some of the trivia quizzes - these were good fun - but taken far too seriously by some. We enjoyed reading in the garden room.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We saw some of the shows by the Cunard singers and dancers. The was only one male lead singer this cruise, his colleague was unavailable through illness we later found out. This detracted somewhat from our enjoyment given all the main male solos were by one person. We thoroughly enjoyed the solo performance of the opera singer Annette Wardle whose singing received a well deserved standing ovation. I was hoping that there would be a magician but no luck. The players of the orchestra played in the GRden Room and the Red Lion Pub on several occasions giving Dixie land recitals. Very energetic, loud and most enjoyable.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our waiters, Rochelle and Joy worked very hard to ensure we had an enjoyable eating experience. Our cabin steward James kept our room spotless. Whenever we passed other staff in the stateroom corridors they always said hello.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The layout of the ship was fine. We soon got to know our way about. Given that the main restaurant is at one end of the ship and the theatre was at the other end we envariably passed other points of interest “travelling” from one to the other.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was spacious, our twin beds very comfortable, and our steward always kept the cabin very clean.

Ship tip

Always have dinner in the main restaurant, and for ease have breakfast and lunch in the buffet restaurant - we did.

Ports of call

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5
We pre booked afternoon tea at Reid’s Palace Hotel and were given a table at the front of the verandah with stunning views of the port of Funchal.we enjoyed walking through the streets and sightseeing here.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Canary Islands

4 out of 5
We opted for a beach transfer here.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
We also did a beach transfer her.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands

4 out of 5
No excursion here. We walked around and did a bit of shopping.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
Very nice and compact port. The shuttle bus took us to the town centre where we walked around enjoying the sights.

Vigo, Spain

4 out of 5
Vigo - again no excursion just walking around the town and harbour. The latter has been tidied up in recent years.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
As always the queues to get off the ship are longer than we would have wanted but perhaps inevitable.
