Review summary

This was our first time visiting Alaska and our first time cruising with Royal. We would definitely do both again! The ship is beautiful and the staff goes out of their way to help. The shows were very good and the food options were plentiful. There was always something to do on the ship which made the days at sea very enjoyable. We would highly recommend the Quantum of the Seas.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The embarkation process was very smooth and orderly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food selection was plentiful and the food was good. We had 2 servers in the main dining room that were outstanding - Laclean and Fuwei. They took extremely good care of our party of 8. If you have a chance to sail on Quantum of the Seas and you're in the main dining room do yourself a favor and ask to be seated in their section.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We did the complimentary i-Fly and it was very much fun. The instructor we had did a fabulous job.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows were very well done and we also enjoyed the trivia games and the other activities that were available on the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward (Shern) was fabulous. Our room was attended to at least twice a day. From the first day he called us by name when he saw us in the hallway. We asked him how many rooms he had to take care of and I believe he said somewhere around 30-40 so that's a lot of people to remember!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The layout of the ship was great - it took us a couple of days to find our way around but once we did then we were set.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were actually upgraded to a bigger room at the front of the ship - #9508 which was also an ocean view room. The view was spectacular - we were in the very front of the ship and had an unobstructed view.

Ship tip

Do anything and everything you can on the ship! Go to the shows, the talks they have, etc. Try the specialty dining one night if you can. We ate at Wonderland and it was very fun and the food was fabulous.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

We got to Seattle on Friday so we were able to spend a few days exploring the city. The flowers are beautiful and the downtown area was good. There are quite a few homeless people and there was some open drug use so just make sure to keep an eye out for that. There was a police presence but it seemed like they were just there to monitor and intervene only if something happened. We were in a group of 8 people so we didn't feel threatened but I can see where a family with small kids could be concerned.

Ketchikan, Alaska

We did the Potlatch totem park and it was just ok. The village was a recreation and we all felt like it wasn't really worth the money we paid. If we go again we would probably just walk around the town - it was awesome.

Sitka, Alaska

We did the Sea Otters and Bears, Oh My excursion and it was very well done. It started with a boat ride (we saw otters and whales!) and then went to the Fortress of the bear (excellent) and then to the Raptor center - another very well done place. Highly recommend this excursion.

Juneau, Alaska

My wife went on the Mendenhall Glacier and salmon bake excursion and I went fishing (sadly our boat only caught 1 fish). The fishing was fun but my wife said her excursion was outstanding. They said the glacier would most likely not be visible in several years due to it melting so do yourself a favor and go see it while you can.

Victoria, British Columbia

The city was very clean and the people we encountered were very friendly. Since we were only in port for 5 hours we opted to skip any excursions here and just walk around the city.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very smooth and easy getting off the ship.
