Service was terrible! by RobynH1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The ship is beautiful, tastefully decorated and well maintained. Staterooms tend to be a bit small, but manageable.

One of our least favorite cruises by LynneS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Most of the ship was beautiful. Prices on the port side of the ship should reflect the fact that most of the time was spent looking at rusty buildings or heavy equipment.

A Good Experience by KathyJ1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Overall, we liked the ship; however, it was lacking something, yet I'm not sure what. The shows were okay, but not like some others I've seen. Perhaps there wasn't enough attention made to details. For example, half the coffee/hot water dispensers on the outside Aloha Cafe were out of service the entire week. Sometimes they ran out of certain foods, which I've never seen before.

An ok Cruise by AnandK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Overall the cruise was average. First the good things - the ship is new and has all modern features. The port itineary was very good leaving sufficient time on all ports. The service was pathetic. It seemed the staff did not care. While there was no rudeness or mistreatment - it was clearly different from other cruises we have experienced. There was no midinight buffet or special events. The food was ok. The entertainment was horrific. They had a magician (doing same tricks on 2 different occassions), a comedian (for 2 days) and dance show. There were hardly anything cultural about Hawaii and everything costs money including speciality restaurants. The shore excursions are mind numbingly expensive when Roberts Hawaii does it for half the price.

Disappointing by GlenG1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

My wife and I were so looking forward to this trip, but it turned out to be the worst vacation ever! The service was sooo disappointing. It felt as though we were irritating the staff anytime we asked a question. It was very difficult to get a dining reservation. Once we sat down the wait for our order took 45 minutes to 1 hour consistently. Food quality was also very poor. Staff were consistently rude - just didn't care. Wake up calls weren't on time, no one at the reservation desk several times during operating hours. Shows were embarassing... I would have much rather paid 3-4 times as much to get a class ship and staff. We were so disappointed and disgusted at how this company runs their business. I thought service was key in the cruise world??

Fun BUT Expensive by JerryL1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

First impression was good, but no restaurant should have a cover charge to eat after paying your initial cost of the cruise. I think 4-5 of them did. The freestyle way of eating is really nice, however. Soda pop is not even free on this cruise. That was amazing. Make sure you have travel arrangements at every port because nothing is close to the ports you stop at. You need to have planned in advance a rental car or transportation from the port to where you're going. And everything will cost. Overall cruise was fun, but spent way to much for the value.

Pride of America is a gem by MiichaelJ

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Everyone on the ship was great. No matter what we needed we were satisfied promptly and competently. The itinerary was exactly what we wanted - no packing and unpacking and waits at the airport required to see multiple islands in Hawaii. No Customs and Immigration issues at all since this was a totally domestic route.

Cruise the Isands by Terryc1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

According to NCL ship-board staff, the Freestyle approach in the three ships sailing the Hawaiian Islands is an experiment. If so, I believe its working. Unfortunately, we had two terrible experiences. It took the baggage handlers four hours to get our three pieces of luggage to our stateroom. We checked our luggage at the dock at around 2:30; our luggage arrived in our stateroom, one piece at a time, from 6:00 until around 7:00. On a one to ten scale, rate luggage handling a 1. The second poor experience was a stateroom stewardess that in our opinion was either incapable of performing her tasks or she simply did not have the enthusiasm needed to do a good job. She did not touch our stateroom the first day until we went to the customer service desk and complained, and on the last morning when she discovered we were going to breakfast instead of vacating the room, she nearly had a fit. On our one to ten scale, she was at best a 2. The rest of the crew was absolutely fantastic. They were the most courteous we have experienced on a cruise line. The food was outstanding and the freestyle dining was fabulous. The ship was immaculately maintained, the newsletter was informative, and the attitude of nearly every crew member was great. Unfortunately it takes a lot to overcome negative first impressions resulting from very late luggage the first evening, followed by a stewardess that doesn't bother to provide clean towels and etc on the first morning.

Pride of America 7/14 to 7/21 by DavidW9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

My wife and I sailed the Pride of America last week and we both enjoyed the appearance of the ship and the itineary. We liked the "Casual Dining" very much. The ship was super clean, the employees were very friendly, and our cabin was great. We had a eight deck balcony cabin and it was worth every dollar we paid for it. What we didn't care for was the entertainment which was very mediocre at best. The entertainment consisted of two comedians during the week and the rest was ship personnel who were, for the most part, high school level quality. We ate one night in the "Little Italy" restuarant and the service was poor and the food wasn't particulary good. I was also disappointed to see that they closed down the only large pool on the last full day of the cruise since that was the closest thing to a day at sea and the best chance for most people to use it.

great travel experience by TerriA2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

my son and I had a wonderful vacation aboard the Pride of America. Everyone was so polite and professional. Our balcony stateroom was small but sufficient with a safe and fridge. Housekeeping was great. The food was good. My son liked eating the breakfast buffet and the food at the Cadillac Diner. The show, "On the Radio" was a real treat as well as the "Crew Show".

A Wonderful Way to See Hawaii by AmandaA3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Excellent vacation! The food and staff was amazing on the ship. We were pleasantly surprised by many aspects of our vacation. Enjoyed the free-style dining immensely, be sure to book early. Our only complaint is that we booked too many excursions, which were good, but kept us busy.

Inconsistent service, great itinerary by GeorgeW10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

While most of the staff was freindly and helpful, several were not. One would be too many. The premium restaraunts were insultingly bad values. The entertainment was second rate. Small, easily addressed (but not) annoyances added up to one big dissappointment. Thank goodness we were in Hawaii!
