Review summary

Overall, the cruise was excellent and I had an amazing time. The NCL Viva is a beautiful ship and I would recommend this Mediterranean cruise to family and friends.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation went smoothly and was very well organized

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
My dining experiences at specialty restaurants and Hudsons were all awesome, including the food and serving staff. The buffet food on Deck 17 needs improving. The selections were pretty limited and bland, and the “hot” dishes were consistently room temperature at best. I appreciated the variety of bar options throughout ship.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I enjoyed Tee time, pools, etc. I was surprised that bingo and similar games were so costly to play with no guarantee of a grand prize winner.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Comedian and DJ were excellent. Beetlejuice actors and singing were great, however, the script was a bit boring.

Children's Programs

I traveled with adults only

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The wait staff was excellent, especially Avilex and Anthony in Hudsons. They were both extremely welcoming and accommodating. My group looked forward to seeing them, as they greeted us like old friends. Avilex is a gem and I loved his attention to every detail large and small. I also appreciated the friendliness and professionalism of the staff at the buffet restaurant, bars and throughout the ship.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The design and cleanliness were excellent, including pool areas, restrooms, and inside and outside lounge areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin size, including the bathroom, was very comfortable. Drawer space and closets were ample. I did wish that the tv swiveled and that there was a small space to hang long dresses without folding them. Overall, I loved the cabin.

Ports of call

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

5 out of 5

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey Did not visit port

Since there was only one scheduled at sea day, I stayed on the ship to add another day of relaxation.

Istanbul, Turkey

3 out of 5
The Panoramic Tour of Instabul excursion fell short of the online description and my expectations. Feedback was provided during the cruise to excursion desk.

Mykonos, Greece

5 out of 5
The Scenic Views of Mykonos excursion was great and matched the my expectations and the online description.

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5

NAPLES (POMPEII), ITALY

4 out of 5
Journey to Pompeii excursion was scheduled through BJs. It was nice, but could be shortened especially during summer heat.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

3 out of 5
I shopped at pier. No excursion was planned.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
DisEmbarkation went smoothly, though I wished there was NCL staff present to deter line jumpers.

Wonderful itinerary! We love the Prima class ships. We did not use the buffet, we liked Local and Indulge food hall for lunch.
