Review summary

Flight cancellations to Seattle started the cruise off poorly. Norwegian’s travel desk was no help. Told us to contact airline ourselves and find a way to Seattle. Took several hours to finely get Delta to tell us they had no alternative. Norwegian travel desk then tells us to find another airline option. What is the travel service for if they are not going to assist with travel disruptions on travel they booked? Very Disappointed

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Slightly chaotic finding transfer point. Norwegian did hold the ship given at least 50 people having had the rebook cancelled flights.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Specialty restaurants we ate at had slow service and so-so food. Buffet was crowded with a lack of seating and slow replenishment of food. Main dining room and sports bar were the better options. Beverages were lacking given most liquor options not being available.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The Norwegian Sun does not have many of the quote fun activities but the pool and spas were good

Entertainment

2 out of 5
There were only a few real shows and an average comedian. Music venues were smaller with the music to loud to hold conversations. Many of the activities areas were in the pathways for people to get to other activities or restaurants.

Children's Programs

Did not use any.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Very pleased with our room steward who was friendly and attentive. Most other ship personnel we encountered were not very friendly or attentive. One guest service staff seemed put out with our questions. Waiting staff were not available in the quantity needed to service the bars and restaurants.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was very clean but the setup lacking. Having to travel through bars and activity areas to get around does not enhance one’s experience. Especially when you have to push through the people standing around resulting from not enough seating.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Good size and location.

Ports of call

KETCHIKAN (WARD COVE), ALASKA

We walked around with another couple and enjoyed the day.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
Whale and Marine Mammals Cruise excursion was great. Saw plenty of whales and mammals despite the cold drizzly day. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Did not spend much time in town given the weather.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
Despite the cold, windy and misty day, this was a remarkable day. Staff provided hot chocolate which was appreciated.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
White Pass Scenic Railway excursion was a good time. Great scenery and train cars allowed us to have conversations with others. The town was pleasant and the saloon we visited a good time with friendly locals.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Great excursion (Mendenhall Glacier-Guides Choice Adventure Hike) given the slightly challenging terrain, unbelievable views and friendly and knowledgeable guide. Would have liked to have had time to spend in town but ship time in port did not allow.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
Wife enjoyed Butchart Gardens and I enjoyed a long walk through town with a stop at a local tavern for a few beers. Really enjoyed talking to a couple of patrons at the tavern.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
The availability to have checked luggage picked up outside your cabin and delivered to the airline was excellent. The debarking off the ship was made less chaotic with two exit points. Only real negative is the lack of direction on where to locate the transportation back to the airport.
