Our cruise was very good. First blessed with good weather throughout. Ports of call were a good selection and tours offered had nice variety of choices. Canal transit could have been better with bow access, but nice with balcony cabin on port side. Ship's entertainment was good, some better than others, but a nice variety. Getting off & on for tours was "organized chaos", just pay attention & read the signs and all worked out.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
With one of our party with limited mobility, the terminal staff & crews folks were great.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Bar service was wonderful. As we bar hopped throughout our cruise, many of the staff remembered my beer of choice. The main dining room (4 Seasons) was a bit of a let down. Menu was ok.. No real escargot, only in a pastry puff. Eating at 5:30 most every night to catch 7PM show, staff constantly rotated, one to take order, one for appetizer, a different one for main course & again for dessert. Very poor. Buffet was as expected, good to v. good, but on some occasions finding a seat was difficult because of card players in the seating area. Specialty restaurants were good and staff there were excellent, though getting reservations before boarding was a hassle with our dining package. Cagney's & Le Bistro were very good. La Cuchina & Moderno were good, but a notch below "our" preferences.
Windjammer Bar
5 out of 5
Music was fantastic, Waitress Caren was super, remembering orders & knowing when to "refill".
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Pool was the best in "rough" seas out of San Francisco. Our own "Sun Wave Pool". The thrashing was constant, which we enjoyed and you didn't have to wait 2-3 minutes as in the water parks. Goofy golf was just that, "goofy". How about a regular putting competition.
Sun Club Casino
2 out of 5
Could be a little more generous. Seemed to not payout, in general, as others I have been to.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Enjoyed nightly shows in the Stardust. Saw ALL the entertainers and only passed on one the second performance. Windjammer entertainment was very good, all of the venues. Base drum with the ship's band was too overpowering, went right through you.
Stardust Lounge
4 out of 5
Comedian & magician were very good. Ship's stage production was excellent. Others were very good. Only skipped on performance the second time around. Not a classical buff, but did stop byu & listen to the classsical group 2 or 3 times.
Children's Programs
Had no childern with us
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Room steward, Jefferson(8th Deck), did a great job. Our room was always ready, neat & clean. Any special requests were handled quickly. Restaurant waiters were constantly being changed during the same meal, very poor. Ryan in the Atrium Bar, Caren in the Windjammer, Kim in the Bliss were my favorites. They all knew my beer or drink of choice and made it perfectly. The poor situation in the restaurant kept this from being excellent.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Layout was accommodating. Some first timers had difficulty getting to & from 7 Seas, because it is only accessible from Deck 6, not very well explained. Having been on the Sun before, we remembered that fact/feature.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
A balcony cabin for the Panama Canal transit!! It doesn't get any better, and we picked the correct side (Port) to vies the other locks from our stateroom. The "Head" (bathroom) could have been a bit larger, but adequate.
A second 110 volt plug would be nice, say near the coffee pot.
Ship tip
You have to get to the 7 Seas dining room via deck 6, THEN go down to deck 5.
Transit was great. Wish we could have been on the bow, as shown on the ships TV, but balcony was great. Difficuly viewing for wheel chair passengers, that could not get an inside view from the Observation lounge and ALL windows were very dirty, so only pictures had to be from above glass level.
Getting assistance with luggage on the pier was a blessing. The "porter" took us right to the front of the line & dropped our luggage right at the pick up spot. Well worth a generous tip.
